Wow, this is pretty bad... A "budget" JRPG that is lacking in almost every category.

The warning signs were all there... a JRPG by NIS, a company with decent JRPG pedigree, but being released in early March with no fanfare, and for a budget price. Sure enough, this game is not what you'd hope for...

What is it? A turn-based fantasy Japanese-style role playing game. You play as two different characters, each with their own skills and magical abilities. You fight many creatures. You visit many places. But when all is said and done, it's very shallow and not well done. This might've been a good $15 PSN title rather than a full-on DVD release.

The good:
1. The watercolor-style artwork in some of the sequences is a refreshing change from standard 3d rendered fare.
2. 3D rendered monsters look good (when not moving)
3. Good monster variety

The bad:
1. 3d visuals in combat and while walking around scenes are very bland.
2. 3d models are animated in a very simplistic way. Often characters will jump between animations without any smooth transition.
3. Sound effects are horribly simplistic and sound very tinny.
4. Combat can be strategic, but also has a strong sense of needing to replay battles against certain enemies many times to find their weaknesses, and once you do, they're very easy to kill but still take many long, tedious rounds.
5. Voice over acting is very stilted and corny. Lots of the same actors slightly changing their voices for many different characters.
6. Long, pointless dialog sections that don't move the story along.
7. Frequent loading times.

Yeah, I think this one is worth missing...
