Overall I could not recommend this RPG unless you want a whiff of nostalgia.
SETUP - my old game came on 3.5" diskettes so this meant I had to get a copy from one of the abandoned game sites. No problem here and some useful advice. Applied the patch taking it to version 1.2.3.
The Good Bits - no crashes (using DOSBox). Fast loading times. A very simple RPG system. Fast loading times meant easy to pick up for the odd 10 or 15 minutes here and there. Auto mapping provided with useful annotations (which helps offset missing things because the graphics is "old").
The Bad Bits - story line a bit cliche. The world didn't feel real in that there really isn't a background to it. Graphics are poor though I didn't notice after a while. Gameplay is limited with tactics becoming boring after a while. The inventory is difficult to use (where is that healing potion?) in the middle of a fight.
Overall I could not recommend this RPG unless you want a whiff of nostalgia (though I admit I only played 20% to 30% of the game before becoming bored with it) but to be fair it was created in 1992 and required a 386 processor to run. What do you expect?
