While Lair looks great on the outside, it's not so great once you actually dig in.

User Rating: 3 | Lair PS3
Lair was one of the first games I bought when I bought the PS3. I thought the idea looked like fun, even if the "dragon riding" has been done before (Drakan, Drakengard, etc.). But once I actually tried it out (with the analog patch included), it wasn't all that great.

Graphics- 9/10
The graphics look very crisp and well done, but it's really the only thing that Lair has going for it. Everything looks rather realistic, from the greenery and trees to the water of the ocean to the dragons and people themselves. Definitely good eye candy.

Characters- 4/10
I will admit that I didn't get far enough to really be able to see the "character development" but it seemed as though the characters were rather flat. You play as Rohn, who seems to have no more depth than the dragons themselves. Perhaps I'm just mistaken but this was the feeling that I got from it.

Plot- 4.5/10
The plot seems to be rather simple. Protect your Empire using your dragon. Not hard, right?

Gameplay- 2/10
This is where the game falls apart, and isn't gameplay one of the more important pieces of a video game? You can fly the dragon by using the Six Axis controller, which proves to be more of a chore than anything. Or you can download a patch from the PSN that allows you to fly using the analog sticks. While this is also difficult, I found it to be much easier. However, the controls are much too sensitive. Instead of moving your dragon to the left just a little, you'll end up on the far left instead. Analog controls are automatically inverted, and there's no way to turn it around. I spent a lot of my time trying to go up but found myself going down instead. Aiming is near impossible, thanks to the sensitive controls.

Voice Acting- 7/10
Not bad but I've certainly heard better. Some seems to be much more dramatic than it needs to be.

Music- NA
I don't remember much about the music, whether it was good or bad.

Replay value- 0/10
Good luck getting through it the first time.

Overall? The idea had a lot of promise. Unfortunately, it was killed by clunky controls that are more frustrating than anything else, and all that does is suck the fun out of playing.
