I just beat Kya Dark Lineage by Atari and Eden Games. It took me about 22 hours (game clock) to complete the game, but I should have beat it a little quicker than that. I saved all the Nativs and opened all the elevators throughout the game.

I really enjoyed playing Kya for the most part. There is some slow down, camera issues, and texturing problems every once and awhile. The game is a 3D action adventure game with lots of platforming, puzzles, and fighting along the way. You play throughout the game as the main character Kya looking for your brother Frank while helping out the Nativs who have been transformed into Wolfens by the evil Brazul. The storyline is pretty basic with a few twists thrown in to keep you following it.

Where the game really shines is the gameplay. This game provides some innovative gameplay elements that keep the game fresh and exciting. The two best parts of the gameplay to me were the board riding portions and the Jamgut riding portions. The board riding sessions reminded me of snowboarding games where you are cruising down narrow paths jumping, dodging, and maneuvering around objects along the way. Riding the Jamgut reminded me of Han Solo and Luke Skywalker riding Tauntauns in Star Wars Empire Strikes Back. The Jamguts look and sound like Tauntauns from the Star Wars movies.

There are some side games you can play in Nativ City as they get unlocked. They call these side games Challenges, but I never participated in any of them. You can unlock them as you save more Nativs throughout the game. You also unlock shops as you save more Nativs throughout the game. The shops sell you different weapons and accessories throughout the game. Some of the accessories are necessary to proceed past certain sections of the game.

The game landscapes and layouts were very well done. The world was designed like a cloud city with varying levels and ways to get around using lifts, wind, freefalling, boarding, etc. The world was very artistic looking with a fantasy feel to it that felt totally different from our own world. The characters were well detailed with good texturing. The use of polygons to create a 3D feel to the game worked well except in a few sections of the game.

The games music was catchy and did not get old too fast. The sound effects were good. The voice acting was good. The only issue I had with the sound was the volume of Brazul was very low, so it was hard to hear what he was saying with the background music going.

This was a good game that could have been great. I wish I could have played through it more consistently because I forgot some of the earlier story and kept getting a little lost as far as where to go next. I recommend this game to anyone who enjoys platform games with a little fighting and boarding thrown in.
