This game is truly a diamond in the rough.

User Rating: 8.5 | Kya: Dark Lineage PS2
Kya: Dark Lineage is one of the most underappreciated games in the gaming world. I began playing this game in 2006 (3 years after its release date) with my best friend, and we have been playing it since. The premise is that an average teenage girl and her half-brother are accidentally transported to a different universe. The girl and main character, Kya, awakens to find her half-brother, Frank, has been kidnapped by the game's antagonist and must save him as well as the rest of the world, from the antagonist and his lackeys (aka the main enemies of the game: Wolfen,)

As I said, it is severely underappreciated and has a very unique plot and characters. The battle system is easy to learn. Kya must buy different colored bracelets in order to learn skills that increase her strength. The main weapon is a boomerang known as the Boomy. It is not used quite so much for fighting (you do use it in one large attack with one of the later bracelets, though) as much as attracting the attention of Wolfen and hitting targets that open doors and etc. For the most part, it seems to serve, simply, as a nice hair piece for Kya.

The graphics are quite nice for the most part (particularly the background images and whatnot) though they may now be looked down upon, but it should be kept in mind that this game is from 2003. For the most part, the images are colorful and the creature designs are quite creative.

One of the vices of the game may in fact be its glitches and, over the years, I have discovered quite a lot. Some are harmless, many are useful in allowing you to skip certain parts of dungeons, but some can get quite annoying. Over all, they are nothing to worry about.

Kya: Dark Lineage is quirky and amazingly unique and should most certainly be shared with any gamer you know. It's definitely timeless and getting through the game to see the ending is totally and completely worth it. Share it with everyone you know!
