Going back in time when the NES was rushing forward to make steps to take over the world. Back in time when the Arcade was also king comes a game that many of the older generation of gamers may well remember. From what i remember as a young boy this game would be in every single Arcade i would go to and i would always try my best to spend as much time on it...Then i got the shock of my life when it came out for the NES a year later. What game am i talking about... the one and only Kung-Fu which in japan is also know as Spartan X.

In Kung-Fu you play the role of Keiji Thomas, a man in a Keikogi and slippers. Your girlfriend, Sylvia, has been kidnapped by "Mr. X", and you must fight through five side-scrolling floors full of enemies to rescue her. Brutally summarized as "rescue girlfriend – hit people", the US and UK version opens with the phrase "Thomas and Sylvia were attacked by several unknown guys...." Which to be honest is the best way to open any oldschool game.

That is the story in a nutshell realy. as most of it is with the gameplay. You can punch with the A button and kick with the B button. Either move can be done from a crouching or jumping position. Punches are worth twice as much as kicks and do twice as much damage, but their range is shorter. So you have to be quick on your feet and use the right attack at the right time. You have to make your way through five floors of the tower. The first floor of the temple contains Grippers and Knife Throwers. Subsequent levels introduce Tom Toms, poisonous moths, fire-breathing dragons, snakes, and confetti balls. All of which have to be dealt with flying feet and fists of doom. At the end of each level there is a boss that the player must beat to move onto the next stage. On top of that you must complete each floor within a fixed time. The timer starts at 2000. If it falls below 330, an acoustic warning sounds.

Now not only was this an arcade game that was ported to the NES it was also ported to many many other consoles. These include the Atari 2600, Atari 7800, Amstrad CPC, Apple II, BeOS x86, Commodore 64, DOS, Java, Linux, NES/Famicom, MSX, PlayChoice-10 (arcade, nearly the same as the NES version), Sega SG-1000, Sinclair ZX Spectrum and Windows. It was also made for the 8-bit Gameking console, under the name of Nagual.

Kung-Fu first came out in japan on December 1984 for the arcades and in north america on October 18, 1985 for the NES.

This is one of those oldschool games that may not be perfect and may well be evil at times but without such a game i would not be the gamer i am today. I still remember the music in the arcades as a kid...It is sad to see that they are no longer around as much as they use to be.

So if you see this game...give it a go and trust me it is worth it in the long run.
