Another fine Klonoa game for the GBA

User Rating: 9.2 | Klonoa 2: Dream Champ Tournament GBA
This is Klonoa 2: Dream Champ Tournament. While not a sequal to either Klonoa: Door to Phantomile or Klonoa: Empire of Dreams (both Klonoa 1s, which can be highly confusing at times) nor a port of Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil (yes, there are 2 Klonoa 1 games and 2 Klonoa 2 games in existance), It fits within his universe all the same. This time around, Klonoa is inexplicable transported into a tournament for charcters from all over Klonoa's worlds (Including Lolo and Popka from Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil, Joka, a bad guy from Klonoa: Door to Phantomile, and Gantz, from a Japanese only release Klonoa Heroes) to participate in a puzzle tournament. While the basic levels are all very similar, the boarding levels attempt some 3D. This 3D does not, in all honesty, work as well as the 2D levels from Empire of Dreams, or as well and the 3D segements from Lunatea's Veil, but at least something new is attempted that doesn't mess up the game entirely for anyone. The other controls are still good old Klonoa controls, one button to jump, one to shoot wind bullets, and the D-pad to move. the controls never get more complex and no combos are needed, making the controls easy to pick up after just the first level.
Being a GBA game, neither the music is as good (the same music is used in all levels for 1 world, making less than 10 tracks total) nor the graphics, but the puzzles are still superb. Some of the more difficult ones will require hours to solve, unless you really know what is going on. This can, of course, provide much more fun than making the game easy on puzzle, but hard on simple control (as many a GBA platformer can do). Finishing some puzzle can just feel an accomplishment all its own.
The bosses are unique in the game and require major skill to actually win. The boss battle, rather than being you versus the boss, is you versus the boss and a timer in the form of an opponent inexplicable solving the puzzle at the same time as you. The objective is the finish the level and get to and defeat the boss as quickly as possible. a progress meter up top show how close you and your opponent are to the boss. While it is possible to slow down your opponent (whom never seems to slow you down), it still comes dwn to fast puzzle solving skill. While the puzzles here are easier, the boss is quite difficult. But the game also won't give you all day to solve it, making it more of a challenge as well. This makes the whole game overall very challenging and a good investment of English class (or your prefered class), or waiting to get a car fixed time. On top of it, it ato saves at certain points (after every level) and within the levels themselves everytime a new area is encountered.
All in all, this is a good Klonoa game and a good addition to the Universe. If you have yet to pick up any Klonoa games, go get them, we are NOT lying when we say they are awesome. This may be a harder title to start with, so get this one after playing another. If you've played any other Klonoa game, add this one as well.
