Canvas curse? Or canvas gift?

User Rating: 8.5 | Touch! Kirby DS
I have just recently finished playing Kirby Canvas Curse (DS). I have played other Kirby games before like the Dreamland original, Dreamland 3, and Super Star Ultra. They were simple and straightforward games. And yet I felt Canvas Curse was an interesting take on the Kirby games.

In other Kirby games there was more emphasis on the transformation powers gained from enemies. What makes this game different is that it tries to take to touch screen and stylus use as a more central element to the game-play. You can tap Kirby and activate switches on the screen. And you can draw rainbow lines so Kirby can go up and around obstacles. You can also use the rainbow lines to block projectiles to protect Kirby. The catch is that you only have a limited supply of ink that replenishes at a fixed rate. Navigating Kirby through the areas and managing the ink in some tight spots is part of the challenge. The game-play experience was very unique. I don't think there are many games like it.

Kirby games aren't known for their difficulty, but Canvas curse was also one of the more challenging Kirby games for me. I have to admit that I'm not the most skilled with the stylus. I have gotten many continues screens than I thought I should. I just realized that I didn't do the right things. So expect a steady learning curve to be able to master Kirby's abilities and direct his movement.

Overall, the game is quite fun to play. I'm not sure if I want every Kirby game to be a stylus centered game, but overall I have to say Canvas Curse is one of the better games I have played.
