A true classic. The start of story-based games

User Rating: 7.5 | King's Quest: Quest for the Crown (Re-release) PC
It's probably incorrect to classify this game as old-school, as it was the pinacle of adventure games in its time. In world of text-based games, King's Quest came out tops! I recently had the pleasure to playing the original again. Yes, in a world of GTA V and Splinter Cell, I decided to play a DosBox-enabled 16-color adventure game. Roberta, I salute you. Yes, I could finish the game in about 3 hours, but it was an absolute charm to do. Memories of days gone past, of drawing maps on paper and figuring out again what item to use on which enemy was fantastic.

Sound is a non-existent really, so it's better to leave it OFF. Control are simple and it can be tricky at times to figure our the '3D' in a 2D world. Climbing the beanstalk, for instance, took me a couple of times but since you can SAVE and RESTORE quickly, I made it to the top with not much effort.

This game also features multiple ways to overcome your obstacles which is even makes this game a true open-world one, if you may!

A true gem.
