A beautiful world, with a few shortcomings

User Rating: 8 | Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning PC
Amalur offers you interesting things in a very decent way. Handmade dungeons, locked - magically warded chests filled with loot, a variety of monsters, hundreds of quests, beautiful stunning landscapes and the pleasure of action-packed combat with surprising moves, with even a "Reckoning Mode" that, like in God of War, makes you very strong and fast.

However, in everything it tries to do, we can recognize potential, but we can also readily recognize its shortcomings. The locked/warded boxes have boring minigames that are not worth the time since the loot is random and normally bad, the monsters get old and dont offer much difficulty (in part due to the very responsive/powerful combat) and the Reckoning mode is blatantly overpowered to the point of being a "I win mode" for any battle, boss or not.

The quests, while being imaginative in some points, feature bland NPC's that doesnt really give a feel of reality or urgency to the whole thing. The fact your character has no voice doesnt help on that. Ultimately, the main story is quite disappointing and you might end the game feeling you did a side quest more than a main one.

Overall, the game offers a rewarding exploration world, with interesting factions and flashy combat, but fails to immerse and is a bit easy for experienced gamers.
