Donald Duck pwns. But that's beside the point. is the story of Sora, who turns out to be the chosen KeyBlade Master; Riku, who lets darkness enter his heart in order to be "free"; Donald Duck and Goofy, who are on a quest to find the Key Bearer and their missing King- Mickey. And somehow, Square-Enix and Disney makes this mish-mesh of styles flow quite nicely. As you travel through space go from Disney world to Disney world, such as Deep Jungle (Tarzan), Agrabah (Aladdin), and Neverland (Peter Pan) just to name a few. You actually change costume on a couple of worlds. Your goal in each world is to "seal" the keyhole in order to prevent anymore heartless from coming through. The Vehicle you use to go world to world is called a "Gummi ship". You can build different Gummi ships with blueprints you find. while I have yet to fully master building Gummi ships, other who played the game calls the Gummi Ship the "low point" of KHI.

Another key factor in KHI are the Final Fantasy characters that makes an appearance in the game. Notables are Cloud (FFVII), Leon aka Squall (FFVIII), Aerith (FFVII, yup, she gets a new lease on life). And you'll even get a chance to go one-on-one with the badass Sephiroth (see the Gaming Beyond section for more). Graphics-wise, there are scenes that are absolutely beautiful, but other times you say "I wonder what it would look like on X-Box..." The in-game dialogue is seriously lacking. There are the main dialogues that advance the story, but lack of any extra dialogue makes it too cut and dry. Now, KHI isn't a "traditional RPG", if it can even be called that is debatable. Don't get confused, you're still able to gain exp. and levels, but magic doesn't play a key factor, if at all, in the game. The one downfall of KHI is that it's a basic hack n' slash game at heart. What it lacks in magic, however, it makes up for in abilities, like Guard, Strike Raid, Ars Arcanum, and Dodge Roll, just to name a few.

Final Mix

Kingdom Hearts I: Final Mix is the Japan-only exclusive game. It features the battle with Sephiroth (which was absent in the original Japanese version), two new keyblades, Gummi Ship missions, new enemies and bosses, and new cutscenes, which adds more to the over all story.

When it's all said and done, Kingdom Hearts I doesn't fail to deliver, and if you're a fan of Square-Enix or Disney, you can't go wrong.
