If you're into survival or horror games, this is the game for you.

User Rating: 8.5 | Killing Floor PC
This game first caught my eye while I was searching through Steam for a new game to buy. It looked interesting, the game play looked intense, the perk system seemed captivating and the best part was it was only $20.00. I couldn't have invested my 20 bucks better. If you're into survival or horror games, this is the game for you.
Alright, let's break it down to the basics; a little background information about the game to start. The game is a six player co-op survival game. Players battle through waves of zombies until the final wave, the Patriarch. Killing Floor thrives with popularity, every time I run a search for servers I end up with around 200+ servers. Killing Floor also comes with an SDK (Steam > Tools > Killing Floor SDK) which allows you to create your own custom maps. This is great because new maps are always coming out to keep the game interesting. Furthermore, there are 5 perks (field medic, sharpshooter, support, berserker, and firebug) and 4 difficulties (beginner, normal, hard, and suicidal).
With the basics covered, let's review the game play that Killing Floor brings to the table. Killing Floor is not a super speedy game however; it is by no means slow paced either. There's a lot of runnin' n gunin' while at the same time there's plenty of time spent taking a spot and holding it. Overall, the game's speed if perfect. Moving on to the weapons, I found the weapons to be awesome, perfectly balanced, beautiful visuals and even the sound was solid. The game offers an arsenal of weapons to choose from. Killing Floor offers a 9mm pistol, .50 cal pistols, a shotgun, a rifle, a bullpup, a flamethrower, a crossbow, body armor, a hunting shotgun, a chainsaw, an axe, and last but not least, the L.A.W (rocket launcher). Also Tripwire is working on adding an Ak-47 and a katana to the list of weapons at your disposal.
Stemming from weapons, we have the perks. There are 5 perks that you can choose from to aid you in your survival. Each of these perks can be leveled up to level 5. In short, perks are advantages you receive by choosing to be that perk. For example, if you chose a support kit you will deal more damage with a shotgun, hold more grenades and weld doors faster. The perk system keeps the game addicting.
Now that you have a good idea of what the game is like, let's lay out the pros and cons.
Pros:
- Good graphics
- Very well done game play (weapon damage, speed, zombie AI, etc…)
- Surplus of maps and servers to choose from and hundreds of people to play with
- 5 stars to Tripwire Interactive for listening to their community and updating the game, fixing problems and adding content
- The combination of the perk system and the unless amounts of maps makes the game very addictive
- Perfect balance between strategy and "run n gun."
Cons:
- Fairly new, so there are many bugs that still need to be worked out
- Hosting a game room of your own on this game is very hard to do (you need a server of your own which adds extra cost to the game if you want to host)
- Game design allows players to be an annoyance sometimes (blocking the door to the trader)
- The voice chat is extremely buggy, with the voice chat volume all the way up it still sounds like they're whispering, even when there is no action going on. Headset is an absolute necessity if you want to talk (which also adds to the price)
On the whole this game is a great game. If you like survival games of any kind this while most likely suit your tastes. Keeping in mind that this game is half the price of a full retail game, it ranks really well in my book. In my opinion Killing Floor gives Left 4 Dead a run for its money, being half the price, more weapons, more maps, not asymmetrical like L4D… However, that's just my opinion.
