Pretty fun, admittedly stylish but brief game.

I actually quit playing, or rather, part of the reason I quit playing video games was because of the rampant and obnoxious sexism inherent in the video game community, now we have the stupid comments from Kojima and really, are anybody surprised anymore? it's common in Japanese entertainment. And now we have this game, which many have faulted for it's infantile approach to sex and the sexism is staggering, and yet, I didn't really get that aggravated over it, no, sorry, I don't know why, maybe because I didn't really care about the story, and hey, it's Japanese what are you gonna do right? Okay, maybe I'm generalizing a bit too much here, but the point is, the sexism didn't ruin the game for me, I actually had fun during large portions of the game, and when I saw large portions, actually, that may not be the best thing to say because the game is short, I finished it in under 7 hours and I completed several of the optional side missions, yes, even the gigolo missions, because they give you upgrades that come in handy, even if you lay the sexism aside, these mini games are boring. The story, I started skipping the cutscenes fairly quickly I must admit. The general gameplay is much more fun than the gigolo missions, even when it descends into button mashing when you're attacked from all sides, by enemies off screen. You can use your sword or shoot or drill or use other weapons to dispatch enemies but you'll primarily use the sword. The game looks great, cel shaded graphics are hardly something new, but that doesn't mean it doesn't look impressive still. One thing I usually look forward to in these type of games are boss fights, well, two are good, the one against big head or whatever he was called and the possessed train, the other ones aren't very memorable, even the last one is a bit of a letdown. The game is also far too easy on normal difficulty, you can buy up to ten chances for revival during a stage, whenever you die, just revive instantly where you died after mashing the X button a little, and then you're good to go. The game can be pretty fun as I mentioned, but it's over all too quickly, there is some replay value though, the Scarlett missions can be challenging and maybe you want to get a better score in the main missions as well. I actually think the game is just okay, I didn't encounter any truly uniquely awesome moments that made my jaw drop, and the game is not really worth buying due to it's brief length, and though it is fun there are far, far better alternatives in the genre, so you may want to check them out first but still, Killer is Dead is worth renting.
