K&L Dead Men; More lively than we were led to believe

User Rating: 7 | Kane & Lynch: Dead Men PC
we had low expectations. remember this coming out a while back and the whole controversy regarding it's score not living up to the hype. it looked decent from footage, but we never thought to get it given how poorly it was seemingly received.

only reason we picked it up and gave it a chance was that apparently it left an impression enough to get a sequel.

after playing through it all we have to say is, "WTF, critics?"

this game isn't that bad. once we get a partner to play co-op with we may even end up playing it a few more times.

story is a little weak, dialogue a little silly, but all things considered this game made us feel nostalgic for those conflict: desert storm/back to baghdad/vietnam games we used to have fun playing with our friends back when there was a console and four controllers between us. this game handles better than we remember those games used to too. it certainly looks better.

gameplay isn't horrible. it kept us entertained. we don't remember feeling bored or annoyed at any point. AI is a little stupid, but given there are always more of them than there are of us it isn't like it stops being mildly challenging.

there's not much character development, but we came away from the experience pleased over all. it's very stylish, very pulp. we dig the whole odd couple suited killers concept they have going. it would fit well into the same universe that has a cloned crimson tied hitman.

towards the end the story starts to drop off on the coolness factor, turning into a generic army game. the endings are pretty anticlimactic, but again, we didn't have very high expectations to begin with.

ordering team mates around is a nice feature. pleasantly reminiscent of the best parts of freedom fighters.

all in all we have to say we liked this game. there were a few things we'd do differently with the story and characters and there could have been a few improvements to the gameplay, but on the whole we're pretty satisfied with this.
