It's a rip-off of Bejeweled and over-priced at $10. But puzzle game freaks might grow to like this.....for a while.

In the early days of Xbox Live Arcade there were lots of puzzle games released. I always thought these games were suited better for a cell phone or maybe playing on your PC at work. Of course, the addictive nature of achievements has made these games very enticing and they can be very addicting.

The problem is for every great puzzle game (Bejeweled or Zuma, for example), there is a game like Jewel Quest. Jewel Quest does absolutely nothing to excite you in any way. The visuals are very bland. The sound is standard and I didn't even use it most of the time. The game tries to be different by adding some Indiana Jones-type theme and that really doesn't help. As much as it may try to cover it up, this is a rip-off of Bejeweled, plain and simple.

With some much competition for your dollars on Live Arcade there really isn't any reason to download this game other than to try to get some achievements. Most of them are attainable, but will take you a great deal of time and patience. You have to beat the game several times to get them all and the game isn't really that much fun in the first place.

Jewel Quest isn't a bad game at all. Puzzle game fans will probably get into it for awhile, but you might lose interest after an hour or two. With more addicitive (and better) puzzle games available, like Astropop or the two I mentioned earlier, it's really hard to justify spending the 800 points ($10) to get this.
