My absolute favorite 3D platformer ever

User Rating: 9 | Jak and Daxter: the Precursor Legacy PS2
OK, so, before starting this review, fun fact; This game took me ten years to finish..

Well i got this game the year it came out, when i was a wee-boy. And i loved it back then, but I sucked very badly at video games back then and therefore..well..

Anyways, so Sony took out PS3 backwards compatibility and so I was locked out of this game for years, then, finally, Jak and Daxter collection is released! So then, Sackboy_man makes his jump back into the unnamed world of Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy...

This game, well, you've played a classic 3D platformer, right? Then you must already know that this game is based on object collecting. Cause ya'know, Mario 64 stars, etc. And that's exactly what your doing in The Precursor Legacy. Sound interesting yet? No? Well that's because I'm a terrible review writer, blame me.

The game starts off with our introduction to our mute-hero, Jak. And a bunch of ehm.. stuff about the Precursors talked about by Samos, the master of Green Eco, and is Jak's uncle or something..but that would be weird because he's the female supporting character, Keira's, Father, and Somewhat proven to be Jak's love interest so um...Yeah i don't really know..Anyway..

Jak and Daxter are a bit of a mischievous duo, and as Samos tells Jak and Daxter not to go to Misty Island, guess what? They go to Misty Island.

Crap happens, Daxter is turned into an Ottsel.

So the Adventure begins! The duo set's out to find the Master of Dark Eco,...I forget his name ehm.. Anyway, they set out to find the Master of Dark Eco, so that he may change Daxter back into his human form.

Enough plot details, review time.

This game is firstly, very graphically impressive. The 3-D world is absolutely seemless, for a title from 2001, Naughty Dog seriously showed the power of the PS2 pretty early in its life. All of the animations are fluid and nice, graphically, this game is perfect, And the recent HD-remastering of this only adds to this fact.

The gameplay is simple and fun. You may have played the previously released platformers by Naughty Dog, Crash Bandicoot. There are a few notable things the games share in terms of gameplay, For example the attacks you do on enemies is comparable to Crash, but there is plenty of difference, like the fact that this is a Full-Three dimensional open world video game, and it's darn fun.

But enough rambling about similarities to Crash.

In the game, the objective is to locate power sources, known as "Power Cells", in order to progress further in the game world. For example, you may need enough power cells to, say, power a heat shield so that you may cross a lava-filled canyon. Power Cells may sometimes be located in the game world, or you may perform various tasks for local villagers, etc. in exchange for a Power Cell. This results in some pretty simple, yet enjoyable gameplay.

Like I said about the game world; it's seemless. You travel to the different islands located within the game, all of which are visable from one island. (Say your in Samos's hut, you could see Misty Island from the window.) And that is still impressive to me this very day, even in the graphical video game age we live in right now.

This game is one thing though, fairly short. Yeah yeah i took ten years to beat it..but I suck, OK? When i picked up Jak and Daxter HD, I had this finished in roughly four days. alas, though, I enjoyed every second.

So, here's a real breakdown of everything in this package.

Seemless, Open world.
Simple, enjoyable gameplay
Outstanding Visuals, even to this day.
About four days of gameplay to a dedicated player.
Just-Right difficulty.

Anyway, I think that sums up The Precursor Legacy pretty well. This game is pretty just right when it comes to difficulty, I cannot, however, say the same for Jak II...
