A special gem that stands the test of time

User Rating: 9 | Jade Empire: Special Edition (PC GAMER) PC
Despite my gracious praise for this game, I must make two small criticism. This game has little to no replay value. While the game itself is amazing, there really isn't a reason to play it again. Second, I do not like the PC version. Frankly, the Xbox controls feel more natural, and I did not see much difference between the graphics.

Gameplay: 10/10
Everything in this game is about martial arts. The game's most dramatic moments are ones where somebody get's thwacked. My personal favorite character build is using the fastest character model with the slowest fighting style. Despite the fact that the character models have no impact on the game, except appearances, it makes for some interesting customization.
After a while, focus mode for using weapons becomes annoying, but it forces you to reconsider your tactics. You might find yourself timing your weapon use in order to conserve your focus.

Story: 10/10
Again, Bioware knocks it out of the park. The coolest part of the story is, it will keep you guessing until the very end. The only flaw with it that I can spot is the fact that Bioware has a trend. The Bioware trend is as follows:
1. One warrior out of many
2. The most special/unique warrior
3. Unique warrior has unique background
4. Unique warrior is actually a "insert epic & mysterious title"
5. Somebody unique warrior used to know isn't who they say they are
Sorry if that's spoiler-ish, but it's the truth. Sure, Mass Effect may have covered up that formula a tad bit, but it's true in all their games. From Dragon Age, to KOTOR, to Mass Effect.

Graphics: 8/10
Not bad for Xbox. The character models are realistic enough, and the special fx are somewhat flashy at times. It definitely gives off a martial-arts/Matrix vibe. In more modern times, the graphics look dated though. However, they were pretty good for the game's release. No complaints here, but the graphics could have been sharpened up a little. Not made flashier or better, but smoothed over.

Overall, Jade Empire is a pretty epic game. I wish they would make a sequel
