Jack made quite a few great golf games, and this one leaves a faint taste of the NES version in your mouth.

I bought this one at a used shop downtown one day, box, instructions and all for 5 bucks. I wanted it cause I loved the NES version and so with looking at the back of the box and seeing the pictures it looked alot like the one I feel in love with. So for 5 bucks... what the heck!

Well alot of it is the same as the NES version, but somethings didnt turn out right. For example, when you putt the ball, the ball seems to head towards hole then suddenly either disappears into the hole or scuries off to the left. I know its only a SNES game but the NES version did alot better job of the ball moving in play. Sad but true.

Next is the problem with the view itself when you are perparing to hit the ball. They have advanced the courses somewhat to include alot more turns and hills, which is fine, but the graphics the game has makes it very hard to properly determine where the course ends and the water hazzards start. Not to mention bunkers, rough and so on. You will need to rely on the overhead map of each course, but its just not good enough. I aimmed and when I think I am landing on the green, BAM! Into the water or sand. The game needs a zoom feature to see where the shot should land because the graphics, at no fault of the console but the game designers themselves, is just not good enough to make accurate shot on some of the tricky courses.

And of course, all the early Jack Golf games is how the screen seems to "unfold" everytime you are about play your next shot. It sucks but it could be worse. It almost seems like a signature of Jack's early golf games. To add to that, the begining of game's player setup is exactly the same as the NES version as well.

Overall its no substitute for the NES version which I one day rocked a 12 under par score, I loved that game... I just got the knack of it and had a blast! This one is alot like it, but is just not as good. Besides, I only got 6 under par on this one so far. :)
