Grindy fun

To open, this game is for people who both don't mind grind and for people who like Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? If neither of these are true for you, you most likely will not enjoy it.

The story of this game follows the first season of both the original anime and the Sword Oratoria spin-off, so there are zero surprises or twists to be found here if you've read the light novels/manga or watched the series. What the game does add are small side stories after completing the main campaign where you will go on "dates" with a variety of characters as both Bell and Aiz. These dates will be composed of several unconnected mini-events and ends with a multi-part event. It doesn't add too much to the lore of the series but it is fun watching some unexpected interactions and you get some original art to be viewed in the gallery.

The real core of the game is the gameplay. The game will take you through several levels of the dungeon, most of which will be straightforward with only a couple of branching paths, allowing you to defeat monsters that will spawn as you move around. To combat enemies you have access to a light attack, heavy attack, magic attack and support abilities. For defence you have a dodge roll, which can take a bit of getting used to. The gameplay is very simplistic, with the most used buttons being light attack and dodge roll. I rarely used magic attacks as a way to attack more difficult melee enemies when they were further away and did not use the heavy attack button as it will leave you open to attack far too often. The support abilities are useful for dealing quick AoE damage to speed up an encounter, but the more powerful ones can take a bit too long to become useable again for them to be useful.

The biggest thing of this game is the grind. You need money and skill points to be able to improve your combat ability/survivability, you need drop items to be able to improve weapons and armour, and to unlock new weapons and armour. All of this means that you will be going into the dungeon to kill monsters for a long long time. And if you are going for 100% percent completion it will be even longer, as you have two characters with separate skillsets to level up.

Overall I had fun with this because I like grindy games, and it was funny seeing some of these characters interact in new ways.
