The multiplayer is where this game truly excels.

I like indie/not that known titles. For some odd reason this game called out to me and for a mere $10 I bought the game off steam. I have to say the game is just a mindless shooting game, yet it has some strategy and some fun mechanics to make the game feel deeper than it actually is.

Story:

I think this game takes 1st place in stupid story in the history of video games. You play as a rebel group trying to fight a well funded and armed military. You want to fight them until they loose their morale. Now this makes sense, but what happens when a huge military with unlimited weapons and man power looses morale? They blow the town you are defending to pieces with their air force and this is what the whole game is about. You want the military to blow up the towns you are defending to show the rest of the world how cruel the military is and hopefully have them rise up with you...what?

Gameplay:

Thankfully the gameplay really makes up for the story the game boasts that it is a mix between RTS and FPS and this is almost a lie. The game is a mix between tower defense and FPS. The enemies spawn in waves and each wave gets bigger and will soon have vehicles it is up to you to defend your stronghold (what the enemies are after) and build upgradable turrets to kill the soldiers invading your city.

Now to be quick the single player is very boring its like a battlefield single player it feels like a tutorial for the multiplayer since you are the only one building anything while your A.I. buddies hang around and look at you and wait for your enemies to spawn. This mode is boring and like I said before feels like a tutorial for the multiplayer.

Thankfully the multiplayer is a lot more fun. It is a frantic match (since most servers are on hard) and will have you and your teammates running, repairing and shooting at a seemingly endless wave of enemies. Vehicles show up enemies are quick to throw grenades and just overall rush you and try to destroy your stronghold. Thankfully if you have a good team you will have great placed turrets and supply depots in easy to see areas.

The game has a power meter that meter is basically how you purchase either turrets or upgrades for yourself. You gain power from 3 ways. 1.) just by staying alive 2.) killing enemies and vehicles by your turrets or guns 3.) If the military kills civilians. You need to decide what to do with this power do you spend it and build and upgrade you and your teammates' turrets? or spend it on yourself to get a better weapon or more health and ammo?

Another thing about the game is the enemies take shortcuts which I found very cool. There is usually 3-4 spawn points for the enemies to come out of. They then follow a linear path like a typical tower defense game. Yet some soldiers like to sneak into houses or sneak by crevices of houses to sneak behind the lines to try and kill you or your buildings. You need to be very observant and shoot first ask questions later.

Another cool thing about this game is basically your stronghold. The whole premise of the game is morale. The more you kill the military their morale goes down and then you finally win the game. Yet if they destroy your stronghold and just keep killing you (don't worry you have unlimited respawns) your morale goes down and you will lose. Thankfully the developers gave you the ability to reconstruct your stronghold (at a decent price and takes some time)

Finally the biggest thing I like about the game is just how frantic it is. From the 100's of soldiers knocking down your turrets and their cool looking vehicles destroying everything in their wake and you lost like 3 teammates in one massive blast and you just see a endless black wave of enemies (they of course wear all black) there is just feeling of awesomeness. The game is just fun the shooting feels just right and the turrets, traps, and supply depot are all very useful to continue your war effort. Plus the weapons you unlock are also very useful too.

Yet there are some problems first problem you NEED to upgrade your weapons when you first spawn. You start with a VERY weak pistol and a single fire musket...no I am not joking. The starting weapons are a joke and you need to waste your starting power on yourself or you will die a lot. Also another problem is basically you need to play this game only for the multiplayer the single player is so lackluster and boring that it feels like a waste. Also for some odd reason the developers made the enemies spawn right when we do when we start a match. What I mean is when you start a match before you can even leave the spawn the enemies are already spawning there is no 10-15 second grace period to prepare.

Graphics:

Honestly not that good at all. It looks like Quake 3 or the original Counter-Strike. Yet it has 100's of units at once on screen and no problems at all.

Audio:

Its meh...nothing too noteworthy really.

Pro's

Very fun shooter game, having to make quick decisions on how to spend the power on yourself or turrets?, enemies take shortcuts to make the game more frantic, the turrets feel right not over powered and not too weak even when upgraded, decent number of maps to play on, very fun tower defense FPS hybrid, people still play this game online.

Con's

NEED multiplayer to really enjoy this game, the starter guns are a joke, if you have a bad team prepare for a bad time, the graphics aren't the best, literally the the beginning of matches enemies appear giving no one time to prepare, the trip wire trap is useless since there is always that one solider by himself who walks into it and then the horde appears, not really a mix between RTS and FPS.

Overall:

Overall the game is a lot of fun I really enjoyed playing the game. From the seemingly endless hordes to huge walking tanks the game is a blast. Its just such a shame the single player couldn't be a fraction of the fun the multiplayer is.
