Festival of Blood is a fun and fresh new spin to Infamous

User Rating: 8 | inFamous: Festival of Blood PS3
Festival of Blood is a vampire themed Infamous 2 spin off, but is not a DLC for Infamous 2, but is instead a stand alone game. Festival of Blood takes place on half New Marais, the city you plan in Infamous 2 with an addition of an underground tunnel area. The premise is simple, Cole was bitten and has become a vampire, thus gaining new abilities. You goal is also simple, Cole must kill Bloody Mary, a Vampire that he is in a way responsible for bringing back to life before sunrise in order to escape eternal damnation.

In Festival of Blood you no longer get to chose good or evil as you did in Infamous, since you are a vampire the game is automatically set to evil. The new vampiric powers need blood in order to be used, and apart from draining electricity to keep yourself alive, you also have to feed on humans in order to take advantage of the awesome new abilities.

You start the game with pretty much everyone possible power from Infamous 2, but as soon as you become a vampire you get a power that makes Cole transform into a swarm of bats and travel throughout the city at a great speed. Using this power makes travel not only very fast and effective to reach many places with little to no effort, but also makes for some fun and thrilling gameplay as well.

The other power you get is the vampiric sense. By using vampiric sense, Cole can detect the undead hiding and pretending to be human in the crowds. With this enhanced vision, you also get to see and locate the collectibles and hidden item as well.

There will be a couple of different enemy types attack you, some special some basic, some with ranged weapons some with melee, and some big though ones as well. Fighting any of these isn't much problem though as you start with powers like rockets right from the start. By performing certain actions you get to upgrade them, but once upgraded they cannot be downgraded like in Infamous 2, though unlike for strategic use these only wary in range and power, so you will never want to select any of the older powers at all.

Possibly the most amazing feature is the Move support and how well it performs, almost as if it was made specifically for Infamous. Aiming and shooting with the Move controller is very straightforward and simple, but apart from that it also controls the camera. The game does a good job of rotating the camera at a good speed by just moving the cursor near the edges, and the closer you get the faster rotation becomes.

The user generated mission editor now has a cut-scene creator, which is truly awesome and makes story telling much more appealing. You can take screenshots of various characters doing many different things in any of the available locations. Then you can display it in a certain fashion and in order you desire, as well as add captions or speech bubbles, making it seem just like you're reading a comic book. This really makes playing user missions with stories a lot more immersive and engaging, and is something Infamous 2 needs to have as well.

Sadly though Festival of Blood can take you about 5 hours to complete at most, and that's if you're collecting everything and doing all there is. Since this DLC title goes only for 15$, 5 hours of really good fun isn't all that bad, and if you're into creating or just playing missions that other create, there is even a possibility of infinite amount of missions.

Overall Festival of Blood is fun and plays exactly like Infamous and Infamous 2, and if you like those be sure to check this one out as well.
