Great idea with an interesting plot that went way too over the top in the end.

This isn't really going to be a full-on review on the game. I just want to take the time to write this and give my impressions on the game in case there happens to be someone that may be willing to check this game out, whether he/she has played Heavy Rain or not. Note that the criticism displayed here is entirely based on my opinion (for the most part) of the game and its story.

I don't really have anything to say about this game in regards of gameplay. It's a story-based adventure game in which you assume the role of Lucas Kane, a once ordinary man that loses everything (including his sanity) after uncontrollably murdering an innocent man one night at a restaurant. You assume the roles of different characters, such as the cops that are after Lucas and in some cases, his brother who desperately tries to help him and course him onto the right path.

I thought the gameplay itself was excellent and very well-done. The idea of making a game in the fashion of an "interactive movie" has been crafted into a game that does what it is intended to do, perfectly. The game mainly consists of quick-time sequences that you have to play through by pressing certain buttons on your keyboard at the correct time and moving your mouse in different directions to do certain things. Not only did the gameplay execute itself in a stellar fashion, but the visuals, sound effects and voice acting were all well done, and the characters all had vivid personalities, as if they were really alive. It's terribly unfortunate that the game fell short despite these accomplishments, due to the rushed plot and character development.

Overall, the story started really interesting, and I was personally drawn right into it. All the characters had different personalities with different backgrounds; each character having something interesting to add to the plot in one way or another. However, the story gradually became non-sensical and twisted as the game progressed, and eventually lost all continuity near the end. I stopped caring about what was happening as a result; the answers to some of the questions made no sense and in the end, the story quickly transformed into nothing short of a typical Hollywood, "save-the-world-and-get-the-hot-girl" cliché of an experience. The plot twists were introduced way too quickly with little knowledge of what was going on, and then when all the questions began to receive its answers, the story just became so unbelievable that it left me shaking my head in disbelief once I've completed the game.

And last but not least, they played Theory of a Deadman in the credits. How about some putrid icing on the crapcake that the story has become in the end? Sounds like an appetizing experience to me.

Overall, the game is worth playing because of the elements that the game does do well; the atmosphere, the voice acting, the cinematic gameplay and an interesting introduction. However, bad development choices and a horrifying ending turn what could have been a masterpiece into what is just "okay".

Sorry for any spoilers that may have been present in this review.
