Hidden treasure!!

User Rating: 9 | Ikaruga GC
Can you remember back to the days of the Atari 2600? There was a game called River Raid. It was a simple game of flying up the screen, staying within the bounds of the river, keeping the gas gauge up, and shooting at everything that moves. Ikaruga follows a similar format, but with an up-to-date graphic style and a bit of a modern twist.

The game incorporates a polarity feature which allows the player to absorb attacks of the same color and do twice the damage to enemies of the opposite color. You can score higher points by hitting three enemies of the same color in a row and mark a chain set.

There are five levels and five bosses. To get higher scores, you have to foloow patterns and predict the movements of the enemies before the attack you. There is an option for you to play the game two-player, but you will have fun either way.

The replay value exists with the perfection of the patterned destruction of your enemies. The game is relatively short, so the way to keep gamers playing is to have them compete for higher scores. While you may find yourself done with the game quickly, you will probably play it through and then pick it up every once in a while for some good entertainment.
