It's a good game and very different from virtua tennis 3

User Rating: 8.5 | Hot Shots Tennis: Get a Grip PSP
Hot Shot Tennis: get a grip, also known as Everybody's Tennis, is a great game on the psp. It much different from the virtua tennis 3 series not just in the way it's presented but also the way it plays. In some ways it's actually more fun then virtua tennis 3.

The main menu consists of 6 options, tennis for one, tennis with everybody, costume, shop, stats, and options

Tennis for one

The single player campaign for Everybody's Tennis, is actually interesting. Most tennis games the campaign is you go around playing matches and grinding, with the later being very dull. Everybody's Tennis actually has a campaign where you the player, go to different locations and "spread" the fun of tennis. Sure the plot seems dull but surprisingly it gets a lot more interesting on the way. A player will go to locations such as a tennis club, a movie studio, and even an old mansion. There are two kinds of leveling up in Everybody's Tennis, character loyalty and equipment levels. A player gains exp for the first by winning matches and the second by finding new clothes and defeating opponents.

A reader may be wondering, character loyalty? That is probably the best feature for Everybody's Tennis. The player starts off with two characters, boy or girl. The best part is you don't have to choose one, you get both! As a player goes along the campaign and defeats tennis characters that are classified as bosses, those players will join you for your wonderful campaign of spreading tennis to all the world which allows the player to play as the character anytime. If you feel like playing with this character one time and another the next time, then it's simple, simply choose the character you wish to play with before a match. Even walking around, a player can change to different characters.

Aside from the campaign there is also exhibition matches available where the player chooses either singles or doubles. Difficulty against computers is either easy, normal or hard. Characters for exhibition are unlocked as a player goes through the campaign. There are many settings for the match that can be changed in exhibition matches. Choosing the court not only changes the background, but also changes the ball speed and bounce. There's also how many games, sets, deuce or no ads, one serve, handicap, and even a choice where a player can choose the umpire.

Tennis with everybody

Yes there is multiplayer but NO ONLINE! There is only ad-hoc and game sharing. A player can even join another players campaign.

Costume

I love customizing my character but not only can you make your character look cooler, but choosing their outfits affects their stats. Some clothes give different stats when worn, even different hair styles change the stats of players.

Shop

There is a shop available for players where the currency is points. A player obtains points when they beat a character in story mode. One can buy clothes, hair, rackets, and accessories.

Options is options, stats is stats.

Actual gameplay

Smashes are much more consistent , lobs are useful in Everybody's Tennis, volleys are a bit too good, and strokes are strokes. Serves actually vary in this game. There is flat, slice, and spin. Like in real life, flat serves are much faster, but harder to get in. Slice serves are slow, but actually curve, and spin serves get in but they look the same as flat serves. What a I love about this game is that if a tennis ball is coming at a player and the player doesnt move the ball actually hits the player, and the point is over. It's a little frustrating when it happens to you, but hey, that's real tennis. There's also stamina which adds realism. When you are too tired your player tends to not hit strokes as well.

The good:
-Interesting campaign, where a player can be anyone, anytime, as long as you've unlocked them
- Customization in clothes and outfits affect the stats, and you look cooler
- Customization in rules and settings are plentiful and can vary the tennis matches a lot.
-Aside from the anime looking characters, game is pretty realistic in terms of stamina and the fact that the ball can hit you and end the point
-game sharing for your friends that don't have this game but have a psp, also ad-hoc

The bad:
-No online
