A well playing golf game held back by presentation issues and only 6 courses.

Looking for a golf game I found Hot Shots Golf in my local game store. After enjoying putting several hours into the enjoyable PSP version I decided to lay down my cash for the PS3 game expecting a deeper golfing experience and much improved presentation. However after playing Out of Bounds for about 15 hours I find myself becoming board of what the game has to offer.

The actual on the course golf is well done and contains some a good amount of depth that it simple presentation may not allude to. You have the choice of a traditional shot meter where you control the power and impact of each shot. An advanced shot mode is also off which has you pressing buttons at the height of the characters swing and at impact. The advanced mode was quite easy to get the hang off but I found it easier to judge the required strength using the traditional method.

The challenge mode has you completing events to unlock items, clubs, and characters and eventually level up. A lack of variety in the courses and challenges reduce the lasting appeal. The game contains six courses all of different looks and difficulty. However I was confused by the small number of offerings as the PSP version had 12 courses. The game is also brought down by a complete lack of aa in the visuals. For a game with simple but quite pretty graphics I find this unacceptable. The childish voiceovers of many of the characters also hamper the enjoyment being had over a few hours.

With some fixes to the presentation and some extra courses Out of Bounds could have been a great fun golf game. However the game is still worth a look for both casual and hardcore golf fans as the game play on the course is both deep and accessible. In summary if you can find this game on the cheap than don't hesitate.
