Childhood dream came to life

User Rating: 9 | Hogwarts Legacy PS5

If you are an Harry Potter fan and a gamer there's no way around the fact that a game like this was pretty much what we were expecting since our childhoods.

Harry Potter books and movies were part of my early life and there will always be happy memories residing in my brain from those fantasy stories. But enough about that, this is a game review so let's dive in:
The gameplay overall is very satisfying, it's somehow fluid and the controls for casting the spells, running, jumping, flying etc are overall well designed and thought out, I can't stress out enough how amazing it feels to have the freedom of flying around on a broom on this virtual world!
The map, specially the castle is outstanding, visually stunning and the interactions you are able to have with the magic happening all around are just fantastic.

The plot I feel it was pretty solid, I wouldn't say revolutionary but they were able to mix the fact that you are creating this made up character and you are also participating in the canon of the Harry Potter universe and this same mix was achieved in a very balanced way.
The customization of the characters and the voice acting is spot on as well! So overall it's a really fun game, with a good story, good game play and full of Harry Potter easter eggs that will satisfy most of the fans.

There were a few catches for me though and why I didn't gave the highest rating: the world map exploration.
First of all while its fun to explore the castle and Hogsmeade, the high lands are very boring, they are too big they feel very repetitive, adding to the fact that a lot of side activities are very much the same and there are a lot of them! So you become very quickly bored to follow butterflies, complete Merlin challenges and look at the stars.... I wasn't excited to complete the entire game and this is coming from a completionist! I really think they should either diversify or made the highland portion of the map smaller, it feels really, really boring and its a shame because Hogwarts its just amazingly designed!

In any case it's still a great game, as a first attempt and with so much hype I feel they did an amazing job, just rethink the side quests, RPG's are everywhere these days and its hard to be original.
