Heavy Rain is a Masterpiece of Epic Proportions

User Rating: 10 | Heavy Rain PS3
Pros:
Jaw dropping story, stunning graphics, quantic dream did a great job at getting you emotionally involved, great new style of gameplay, very rewarding game, haunting soundtrack (in a good way).

Cons:
Minor low res grahpics on small appliances, some minor glitches, the story Appears to be left blank in Small areas.

The Review:

Tired of blood splatters, skull smashing, throat cutting video games that have repetitive stories and leave you feeling like you wasted ten hours of your life? Well forget all of that, because Heavy Rain has arrived and it Delivers.

First off, ignore gamespots review, it is a blunder and a myster how that terrible "review" ever got published. This game is a masterpiece, and deserves nothing less than a 9.

In the story of Heavy Rain you will play as four characters: Ethan, Maddison, Scotty, and Jayden. All of which have thier own personal reasons and background that bring their worlds crashing together as they pursue a single man, known only as, the Origami Killer.

The gameplay is most likely to be one of the more controversial aspects of the game. Yes it may be slow for some; but the jaw dropping ending, intense action scenes, and feeling of accomplishment will make dull and boring moments worth every second. I personally even enjoyed the "slower" moments of the game, because if anything, they allow you to take in the beauty that this game has to offer visually. The only major downside to the gameplay is that the controls do require a bit of a learning curve, I myself found that some actions wouldn't respond the first time and I would have to attempt a couple more times while searching houses before I could finally slide open that pesky drawer. However this is only a minor complaint on an otherwise spectacular game.

The Soundtrack in the game is equally as impressive as the graphics. It's nothing revolutionary or new, but the music seems to coincide perfectly with the pace of the scene you play out. Once the game is finished, and the music plays through the credits, you will almost invision scenes throughout the game where you fought for your life or mourned with the characters involved. The music will stick with you in this one.

Well I don't know how they did it, but Quantic Dream pulled it off. They actually made you feel compassion and establish a bond with your character right from the start. You really do get the sense that you are playing Your character, not some pre-programmed killing machine. The decisions you make throughout the game will define your character, perhaps even making them mirror images of yourself. As long as you have a heart, compassion, and love a great story, then you will fall in love with this game and the characters involved. Even if you're none-of-the-above, that doesn't change the fact that Heavy Rain is a must own for any PS3 owner.

Heavy Rain is the only game I have ever given a perfect score, because it delivers. Heavy Rain is beautifully designed, has a fantastic story that will make your jaw drop, and will leave you with that, too rare, feeling of accomplishment. Heavy Rain is one of those games that you won't want to end, but you wont be able to put the controller down and walk away, its not that simple. You get the feeling that you simply must find Ethan's son, track down the Origami Killer, and save the day. That feeling is you falling in love with this game, and for once, establishing a bond with the characters involved. Unlike what was said in Gamespot's review, this game DOES hold replay value. The questions that linger in your head after beating the game like, "what if i killed him...what if what if...", are more than enough to make you want to play again and again. Yet no matter how many times you play, you will never replace the memory of the first time through. That's how amazing this game truly is.
