Most underappreciated game of 2005
You play as Fiona Belli. While visiting her parents she ends up in a car accident that clams her parents lives. So then she wakes up from the car in a strange castle.
In Haunting Ground your not killing everything like Silent Hill,and RE. Your hiding from various enemies that chase you for their own reasons. You can hide under beds in closets and stuff like that. And once you hide in things like that you go into first person and you can watch from where you are to see if the person chasing you is gone. But that doesn't mean if an enemy comes by you can hide and never get caught. If you hide in one place too much, they will realise where you are and find you.
Each chaser has a certain weakness that you need to take advantage of.
Like Daniella the psycho maid is distracted by her reflection which for some reason brings her pain when she sees it.
One thing that sets Haunting Ground apart from other survival horror games is Hewie. Hewie is a white german shepard that fights for Fiona. You control Hewie with the right analog stick. Hewie will do different things when you command him depending whether there is an enemy nearby or not.
One very cool thing about HG is the Panic Mode. There isn't a life bar in the game. Fiona can die by going into Panic Mode by getting hit enough,and then the screen becomes distorted and a couple hits more and your dead.
But here is a problem with the game. When you go into panic mode Hewie can become unresponsive at the worst possible times. One more hit at this part and Fiona will die. And you can still tell Hewie to do things but she will only say "help". And during this Hewie will either not respond or start to respond but too late.
And another problem is the static camera of Capcom. When Hewie attacks an enemie the camera won't focus on it. And the enemy may have already been knocked out but you won't know that and you'll be commanding Hewie to attack then they wake up while your doing that.
But HG is still alot of fun at least try it before you go judging it by the reviews.
