while playing this I played System Shock 2 simultaneously and noted that HalfLife is by far more successful of the two, ignoring the commercial success or populairity of those games. HalfLife while showing its age in tis graphics and gameplay, is quite humourous and "smart" FPS. Smart in that it doesnt require the stipulation to blow things up in order to progress. i love the fact that i had to think about i was going to survive a certain situation and that blowing up things was not going to get me anywhere. like when the huge chunks of rocks were falling and i was wondering what the heck to do next and thought for the most part that i was stuck and had to reload to another savegame, or as the worst resort ever go to an online FAQ-- but no! all i had to do was survey the surroundings and think about it. Thinking thinking thinking about the most indirect way to get through to the next stage, i loved that stimulation and the concept of the "underdog" nerd geek physicist as the unsung hero. great game.
