Six years after the genre changing Half-Life Valve finally released its much anticipated sequel Half-Life 2, and it was everything we could hope for and more. The game takes place an undisclosed time after the original, it is generally considered to be at least 20 years after the events of the first game, in the time since Gordon Freeman stopped to the alien invasion from the world of Xen, another invasion followed as the mysterious alien empire of the Combine have taken control of the earth and made slaves of the population, the man responsible Dr Wallace Breen, your former advisor at Black Mesa who after the invasion sold out humanity for the power he craved and was rewarded by the Combine overlords with the control of the entire occupation of the earth. You begin the game dropped onto a train headed for City 17 the base of operations for Dr. Breen and the Combine forces of the Overwatch and Civil Protection by the equally mysterious G-Man. Through the story you meat up with some old friends from Black Mesa, including the security guard Barney, your colleagues Dr. Kliner, and Eli Vance, assisted by Dr Judith Mossman, and Eli's daughter Alyx who helps you throughout the game.
