A decent Action, 3rd Person, High Tech Future shooter. The action is intense. Great graphics packed in a small package.

Right away you might assume the game detail and graphics is going to be trash. The main menu really does not do the games video rendering justice. I did like that you don't have to read through the briefings. The "Commander" does a good job of letting you know what to expect. He Also will usually know what's going on in mission too which really helps you keep track of your objectives. Mission complexity does not get gradually harder it's fairly un-climactic. Example: Mission 3 is loads tougher then mission 4 and 5, but the order of the events in game is pretty much kill some stuff, save the people protect the secret base and then repeat.

I liked that you could go back and repeat any mission anytime and not lose your place. In addition you did not have to proceed to the next mission to get your next weapon unlock. If you finish a mission and know that you have a weapon unlock coming up you can proceed back to mission 1 and it would grant you the unlock. Now you can use any of your unlocked weapons on missions 1, 2 and 3 and so on. The game gets more versatile as you play because you are continually unlocking weapons for your Mech or Jet mode. As you have probably discovered by now this game is about piloting an experimental Mech unit that can transform into a Jet. You can fight in either mode, as well as switch as often as you like. Plus, your ammo and weapon stores are totally different in each mode. If you run out of missiles in the air you can transform and use missiles while on the ground. It's very cool and because the ammo pool is separate for each mode you have a lot of fighting options.

The maps for each mission have a lot of repeated similarities but, it has very decent textures, plus your Mech is very shiny in the sun. I am a sucker for shiny Mechs that can squash enemy infantry into the dust. Yep that's right you can step on the little guys. Actually you can step on your allies too, which you really should watch out for (unless you are into murder and things that scream and go splat). You will get a nasty little notice about harming the population. Sometimes the action is a bit to fast and you don't get much room to breath and "accidents" can happen.

The game is very brief some of the missions don't even last more then five minutes but the action is intense. If you love mech games and can handle some fast paced lets blow it all up action then Gun Metal is worth checking out. It is Free on GameTap if you are not looking to buy the retail. The game does not have much re-playability as there is no multi-player function so once you're done with the story that is it.
