Best MMO to date

User Rating: 9.5 | Guild Wars 2 PC
If anything, Guild Wars 2 is a diverse, cheap, (and by that I mean price not quality) and overall enjoyable MMO for veterans and newcomers alike.

I'll start by giving the bad stuff about the game. It in no way puts you in the game steadily so you understand what's going on in it, not at all. In fact, in every race, the tutorial ends with a massive climactic boss that everyone in the tutorial area partakes in. These are know as "events" and everyone with the vicinity will get a notification where an event is taking place. Now, clearly the sound of a boss fight in a tutorial sounds exciting, but they do a poor job of telling you how or what you're doing, rather they just throw you in the midst of things. Veterans of WOW or other MMO's will be confused while newcomers more so, and that is clearly the hardest part of the game, though that doesn't mean other MMO's don't have a learning curve, this one just expects a lot from the player then most do, so if you've read all about this game you should be okay to start.

Now with the good. Guild Wars 2 is the only MMO actually attempting to move on from the WOW grind style of most MMO's. Some events are so crazy and different then the last one, you'll find yourself asking how Arenanet came up with such an odd event. The combat is very fluid as well. You don't have millions of skills, just ten, and three of those you likely won't use. The first five are located to the left and are the most skills you'll ever really use. These are based on the type of weapon(s) you are using. They also have a switch button between two skill sets so in combat lets say you have a ranged weapon, then when they get close you switch to you're melee and battle at the front line, this allows for a lot of diversity. You could have to different ranged weapons, or two different melee weapons so that (based on the situation) you quickly switch to the other one. They have quick access team based PVP and also world vs. world PVP which are three different servers fighting against each other on one map in trying to take control of certain points. They are all very fun and you can go from level 1 to 80 in PVP if you want to do that, but you don't have to. They have their own instanced storyline, and you can invite friends into your instance if you want, and the storyline is interesting and keeps you guessing, it's not some boring pointless storyline of hero's coming together to fight a greater cause, no, there are valuable moments that will have you shocked at how in-depth it can make you feel. The dungeons are not the same thing over and over, once you complete the "story mode" you can venture further in and play a totally different area roughly four to five times different then the last. This way the dungeons feel fresh and offer another good reason to come back. Also, each dungeon has it's own set of armor for each level, (light, medium, heavy) which you can complete for sentimental reasons or for legitimate armor buffs. Then the have these vista's and undiscovered points of interests that you'll realize you're getting a ton of xp from. Once you complete an entire area also. you'll recieve money, XP, Karma, (which is used to buy special more expensive gear) and a whole lot of loot and gear. Some of them are very fun but some can be ultimately frustrating beyond comprehension, making the victory of getting to them, that much sweeter. And potentially the best part of it all, it's buy once, and never have to spend another dime. There is a micro-transaction store know as the Black Lion Trading Company in-game, but the only really important things worth getting are the XP boosts, the server transfers, inventory expansion slots or extra avatar slots, and they already give you 5 slots to begin with.

In the end, This is the only MMO everyone should start out with and end with. There is no better MMO capable of standing a real chance against WOW, and once updates come on and they make the tutorial a little bit easier to understand, this'll be a ten for me.
