mindless entertainment

User Rating: 7 | Grand Theft Auto V PS3

It's been a long five years and Grand Theft Auto V is finally here. The true successor to San Andreas has finally arrived but has it been worth the 9 year wait? No. Grand Theft Auto V doesn't stray too far from the formula which has made the franchise famous but you would think after all these years and time and effort into production we would have a far superior product than what came before us 10 years ago. The reality is, Grand Theft Auto V hasn't changed much from the previous installments.

You now have a choice between 3 main characters, Michael the Vercetti wannabe, Franklin the fake gang banger and Trevor the sociopath. You can see what's going to happen next.

Techically Grand Therft Auto is a marvel, the graphics are superior to anything I've ever seen before on a PS3 and truly gives Grand Theft Auto V that next gen feel and look. The attention to detail that has gone into this game is astounding and will be looked at in years to come as one of the PS3s greatest achievements.

Sharp voice acting, believable characters makes the city of Los Santos come alive and feel like a real living and breathing 24 hour city. The radio stations on the other hand are dissapointing and lack a killer soundtrack like Vice City and San Andreas. The best radio stations are West Coast Classics with tracks from Dr.Dres 2001 Album, Gin & Juice from Snoop Dogg and the legendary N.W.A with Gangsta Gansta. The other surprisingly good station is Non Stop Pop with Fergy, Britney Spears, Pet Shop Boys, Stardust and a lost gem by Jane Child. Stay clear of Los Santos rock radio unless your a baby boomer. The only good tracks are by Elton John ( pop ) Def Leppard ( pop metal). It would be nice if there was an alternative radio station or underground. It would be nice to see some Pixies, Sonic Youth, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nirvana instead the like of Phil Collins and Kenny Loggins (REALLY?).

When it comes to things to see and do Grand Theft Auto will wet your appetite. With the story being over 60 hours, one of the biggest maps ever seen in gaming, underwater exporing or just running a muck there is 100's of hours worth of gameplay to keep you busy before next gen.

If you were looking for the holy grail of gaming Grand Theft Auto V might not be what your looking for but if you are looking for a lot of mindless entertainment and to live out every psychopaths wet dream. Welcome to Los Santos.
