Developers take note: This is how you introduce and improve a franchise when transtioning to a next gen console!

User Rating: 9.5 | Grand Theft Auto III PS2
Grand Theft Auto 3 is the poster child of how to increase the fan base of a franchise and how to transition franchises to the newest generation of gaming consoles! Before the release of GTA III, I had only seen screenshots of its predecessors and was immediately turned off by its "helicopter view" of the game play. It wasn't until I began to hear the constant hell that this entry was raising that I really took an interest in it (which was excellent timing since I was getting my PS2 that Christmas). This game completely took me off guard when I began playing it...I had high expectations, but imagined nothing like THIS. I just couldn't get enough of the free roaming, "do-whatever-you-want" feel of the game! I spent more time killing people and starting police chases than completing missions.

My Breakdown:

What's Good:

- Graphics (for its day)
- Amusing
- ^ Even the glitches add to the humor
- Fun free roaming experience
- ^ High Replay Value
- Great story
- Collecting cars and stuffing more into your garages than your "suppose" to
- Fun missions

- Kidnapping people and either doing a driveby with them still in the car or trapping them in the car under the metro station so a train can hit the car!

- Riding on the back of a scared pick up truck while the police are casing you

What's-Not-So-Good:

- Some missions can be a pain in the @ss
- Claude can't swim

What's Bad:

- A half @ss Dodo is the only plane you get to use on the game
- No motorcycles

In all, there's a certain charm that the free roaming captures in this game that none of its successors have been able to even duplicate. Seriously, me and my best friend would spend a whole day taping the madness we would cause by just goofing around. To this day, I can go back to this game, goof around and still have just as much fun as I did 9 years ago! Its sucessors obviously do a lot of things better but as far as causing chaos outside of missions, GTA III is the best in the series imo!
