Kratos swings again, but so much was missed, from making this the best GOW. A great game, but still lacks behind GOW3.

User Rating: 8.5 | God of War: Ascension PS3
So the game is a prequel to the series, most fans know it all by now. Kratos the famed anti-hero , begins his madness. His mind begins to fall more into the clutches of blind anger, and rage, losing is sanity, and any human touch.

GOW ascension shows a side of kratos which leads up to his mental degrading, and a more human side to his monsterous no mercy attitude.
However i truley beleive that saint monica missed the nail. Their was so much potential in really diving deeper into kratos's mind and exploring his more human side. It isnt really disected that well, and leaves us with a character who must escape the torment of the furies with his skills.

So kratos has broken an oath with ares, and is imprisoned by the furies, making the reference to greek mythology.

The action and violence is their, however it feels toned down compared to GOW3. This is manily due to kratos not reaching the higher level of rage and madness, and ripping apart any living being he confronts.

The action however seems to feel much less fluid than that of GOW3, which is strange, as i jumped back onto GOW3, and was instantly suprised at the change.
The magic use is improved adding to new abilities.
The puzzles are great, and the graphics and enviornment is amazing.

The games story does take time to take off, the middle being the part where the plot becomes much more interesting.

However their was soo much more that could of been done to make ascension even better. The lack of attention to kratos and his mental story is disapointing. This was an oppertunity for us to have some emotion for kratos tragedy. However the potential seemed lost.
Kratos himself seems quiet , and more in a world of his own.
Maybe this is because of the recent events in his life. However their are many references to the furies playing with kratos mind which does suffice. We see kratos having illusions, and trying to differientiate between reality and illusion.

The ending of the game is really the climatic part of the story, as it should be.
The trial of achemedes has already prompted sony to release a patch to make it more easier. But the challenge it provides is frustrating to the casual, while embraced by the hardcore.
It really was a great addition, because of its ability to challenge the gamer, where most games shy away.

Overall the game is solid, offering us more GOW action, puzzles and enemies which are satisfying. But not anything more. I did get annoyed with the goat warriors or the half bee creatures. But they should of done soo much more. Their should be by now more brutal, looking enemies which really challenge kratos. The boss battles are great, but nothing like that of GOW3.

The multiplayer on the game requires your paitience, and has a learning curve. Once learnt , it provides a great MP experience.
However it wont sit well with everyone, especially some who beleive they should not of been an MP.
But its about time we have an MP which offeres something elese other than guns.

Overall the game should not be missed by GOW fans.
