Sure, It Feels a little bit DMC-ish with a little GOW thrown in... but why is that a bad thing Gamespot?(psp/ps2 review)

User Rating: 7.5 | Ghost Rider PSP
Ok, as you know I made a simialar review for the ps2 version because I played that a little bit. Well now I am gonna make this review for the psp. The games are quite the same except the level layout and the ways you beat the game is a lot different. Along with an adjusteble camera the psp version is a bit better. It also added more unlockables along with a couple more mode like muti-player in ad-hoc mode. OK here is the ps2 review first. Since I gave the game a mid 7 for a score on the ps2 version, I gave it a bit higher on this version do do having those featues I mentioned above.

However it lacks a lot of moves and powers that Devil may cry and God of war would have along with interesting fluid enemies at first. I know I did not play much of the game (only the first level up to the Boss) yet but it is still a good game and worth a buy for that price.

I was also really shocked it came out at least this well for a game based off the Comic book movie. I bet it will get like a 6 or lower on Gamespot knowing them. I would give it like a 7.6/7.8 so far...Now only played it for 40mins and I wanted to go play my other game XML2.

Here are my Pros and Cons.

1.Framerate gets a little slow around flame areas with enemies on screen(Something I know Gamespot will make a low score for)

2.Cool and fun melee chain moves that are Identical to Krato's Chain blades but not enough special power moves(hope there is more later on) including moves that ghose rider is supposed to have like throwable chain links, flame and fireballs. Also, Johnny blaze Ghost rider never had penance stare but still cool to have once you get it filled.

3.Graphics are pretty good and environments are decently detailed in backround in the first level of hell but the cutscenes are comic slide style like MGS:PO, so that is the only bummer.

4.Camera is decent so far but I wish I could have the ability to move it a bit.

5.Enemies are rather boring at first and lack cool attacks.

6.Eventhough the game takes a few ideas from DMC and God of War it needs to innovate more ideas of it's own if it wants to make it above the crowd of this genre.

7.Jumping is kinda meh but it is nice to have it. Seems like you do not have the ability to double jump or do the jumping I would like to do in a game like DMC. However Dodge is fun.

8.For what is available in the beginning. I hope the game does not stay this repetitive and I hope it lets you get more involved later on with some puzzles, mini games and decisions.

9.Interesting ways to beat and enemy to make you use the combo style meters that DMC uses. Just makes you smash more buttons. I am sure It will get really hard near the end of the game.

For $29 bucks this game is def worth a buy. IF it were to be $40 than maybe.. $50 than I would just rent it.

SO if you like lighter versions with simplicity mixed into it of games like Devil may Cry series an the God of War series I recommend this game for you.

PSP review.

Ok, as you know I made a similar review for the ps2 version because I played that a little bit. Well now I am gonna make this review for the psp. The games are quite the same except the level layout and the ways you beat the game is a lot different. Along with an adjustable camera the psp version is a bit better. It also added more unlockables along with a couple more mode like muti-player in ad-hoc mode. OK here is the ps2 review first. Since I gave the game a mid 7 for a score on the ps2 version, I gave it a bit higher on this version do do having those features I mentioned above.

PSP review.

1.Framerate did not get slow around flame areas with enemies on screen like the ps2 version did when there were a lot of baddies on the screen at once with all the frame effects.

2.This one still contained some of the cool and fun melee chain moves that are Identical to Krato's Chain blades. I mean the reviewers on all these sties including this one think that this game ripped everything from GOW. When it really didn't Infact. IT just took a few moves how how Krators performed them in GOW(flaming Chain swing and Chain slam) That is all Kartos has related to Ghost rider. Infact Ghost Rider was doing Chain swings before The GoW creators were born... So who copied who?

2.After being close to beating the game I still don't think there is not enough special power moves. The moves that ghost rider is Ghosty gets later on include fireballs but only after you maxed out your flame attacks. And really it could take you half a game to do that, if you want to do other upgrades. Ghost rider still did not get throwable chain links but he has a special move you perform by press up call "retribution", Also, Johnny blaze Ghost rider never had penance stare but still cool to have once you get it filled and you better off using it has a turbo suped up more than blowing 6 bars for a stare on one enemy by press the circle button. I usually wait until I have one bar left and use it as the meter goes down.

3.Graphics are pretty good and environments are decently detailed in backround in the first level of hell but the cutscenes are comic slide style like MGS:PO, so that is the only bummer.

4.Camera is decent so far and much better in the psp version. You can actually adjust it to 2 angles with the D-Pad. Which is not a bad idea. but I still would like the ability to move it more freely.

5.Enemies are rather boring at first and lack cool attacks in the psp version it gets a bit better as the added a few more enemies from what my friend is telling me. He said there were no Demon Ninjas in the ps2 version but there are in the psp version. Also after a while you have to break their highest combo shields and it can get more boring frustrating than hard because you have to do A LOT to break it. You mine as well have all the combos unlocked an remembered in your head so you can do well on those parts because you will see these guys a lot at the end half of the game.

6.Even though the game takes a few ideas from DMC and God of War it needs to innovate more ideas of it's own if it wants to make it above the crowd of this genre. I still agree with this but I am not as harsh as the "other" reviewers are with this game. Sure the ranking and combo systems are pretty close but if this game was a direct carbon copy it would still get better reviews and more reviews may like it more if it had the story and depth of those games I bet.

8.For what is available in the beginning. I hope the game does not stay this repetitive and I hope it lets you get more involved later on with some puzzles, mini games and decisions. Ok, being at least 80% done with the game I have to say it pretty much stays the same but in the psp version it is a little better and feels like the game is longer because you play story mode like an "endurance" mode. Which can be bothersome for some people. A lot of people who had or played both versions preferred the psp version over the ps2 version because you get to get bonus stuff and fight more enemies

9.Interesting ways to beat and enemy to make you use the combo style meters that DMC uses. Just makes you smash more buttons. I am sure It will get really hard near the end of the game, nope still pretty easy. I think I died like 3 times so far. and that did not start happening until I fought Scarecrow and during the "Vengeance" shield guys can be hard cause it could take a good 7-10 mins to beat them if you have like no combos unlocked like me... lol.

10.So far I would say the bike parts of the game are interesting but kinda pointless to have in the game because most of them are pretty easy and when it gets hard they just make you jump a lot and when you crash they just take life away and when that is empty I believe they make you start the whole level over with out going back to the checkpoint. I have not died yet but I have crashed a lot like everyone. The biking missions would be better in this game if they let you free roam. That would be awesome. Just going to random parts of the world and Hell and actually being a bounty hunter. Who knows maybe they will do that for Ghost Rider 2 and they will get low scores for "taking" and coping everything from grand theft auto. I can see it now....

Well that is about it. And wraps up my review for Ghost rider on the psp. If you are having a tough time on making a decision on purchasing either game you may like the psp version a bit more. And again for both systems. $30 is still not a bad price. Although. I think it should be like $20 for psp because of the different game progress.
