It's time for the Geometry Wars: Galaxies review! For the Wii!

Geometry Wars: Galaxies is a sequel to the original Geometry Wars which was a minigame that came with Project Gotham Racing 2 for the Xbox…Thank you Wikipedia.

If you've ever played Asteroids before, you've pretty much figured out the objective for this game as well. Galaxies is a 2D shooter where you take command of a space ship, and shoot down all that you see.

Now it's not so much as shooting everything in sight, but more of just staying alive and racking up as many points as you can get! You start out by selecting which planet you want to "fight," I guess. When you're actually playing the main game, you're put in a polygonal shape and you have to shoot and survive in that limited amount of space.

As you start to fight, you will notice that the enemies are not all alike. They're main goal is to destroy you, by "touching" you. What is it with games when you touch an enemy, you get hurt or even die? Anyway, certain enemies are worth different amounts of points. Some enemies will fly right at you for an easy target, while others will try to maneuver around you. The enemies that are harder to kill are worth more points than enemies who are stupid and fly right at you.

Some enemies are actually black holes that you have to destroy. I'm not even going to TRY and figure that one out…

Each planet gives you a scenario. Some planets will start you out with three lives and three bombs, and some will start you with only one life and no bombs, to make it interesting and more challenging. Some planets have certain variables that will affect your playing experience by making you think in a more strategic way, as opposed to planets with just a plain ordinary shape.
While killing off your enemies, they will drop little tiny yellow things. These things are called Geoms. You will want to collect as many Geoms as possible, because they act as your multiplier. The more Geoms you collect, the higher your multiplier will go, and you will receive more and more points from your defeated enemies.

With more and more points acquired, your weapon for your ship will be upgraded to a spread shot. As I said before, some planets give you bombs, which will help you in those really tight spots, by destroying every enemy on the plane.

Geoms also act as the currency for this game. With more Geoms collected, you will be able to purchase new solar systems and planets to conquer.
As well as buying new solar systems and planets, you can also buy new attributes for your drone. Your drone is your best friend in the game. It is designed to help you fight in many different ways. Before you start a level, you will need to decide which attribute your drone will take on to help you in the battle.

Some attributes include Attack, which will let your drone attack wherever you are attacking. Defend, which will let your drone attack in the opposite direction of where you're attacking, or my personal favorite, Sweep, where your drone will rotate around you at fast speeds and anything it hits will be destroyed, which can be VERY helpful when you are surrounded by enemies!

After you complete a level, and by complete I mean die, because there is no end to any level, you will gain experience points depending how long and how many points you received from the last level.

Once you receive enough experience points, you will level up. Actually it's not you who levels up, it's your drone. Depending on which attribute your drone acquired before going into battle, that's the attribute that will gain experience and eventually level up.

The graphics are so simple, yet so beautiful! Every time you kill off an enemy, it will explode with a bright array of colors! There's no slow down either, which was nice, because it can become VERY hectic at times!

The controls are perfect, that is, when you're using the Wiimote and Nunchuck combo. You can also use the Classic controller, but I felt the Wiimote Nunchuck combo was the best. You move with the analog stick, aim by pointing the Wiimote at the screen, press C or Z to use a bomb, and fire by holding down either the A or B button. I really liked that you could use either one, because sometimes your thumb or finger would get tired, and it was really nice when you could switch.

In addition to the main game, they also stuck in Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. It like Galaxies, except you don't get a drone to help you out, and receiving a multiplier is harder because the enemies don't drop Geoms.

There are several different types of multiplayer modes. There's Versus, Co-op, and Galaxies. Versus and Co-op use the Retro Evolved principles which was ok, but Galaxies was way more fun because it was Co-op, and they added Geoms for high multipliers. The only thing I didn't like was that drones were not a part of multiplayer. But nonetheless, it was still pretty fun.

There is an online mode, but it's only to show off your, and everybody else's high scores.

Now I thought this next feature was really cool. If you have a DS, you can download Retro Evolved to it! Now you can play Geometry Wars wherever you go! Take it in the car on those boring afternoon drives! Play it while your parents think you're doing your homework! Take it in the bathroom while you do your business! (Link at the top!) ;)

The catch is that if you turn the power off of your DS, the game will be lost and to get it back, you will have to re-download it. But still! I thought this was really cool!

Geometry Wars: Galaxies is a fantastic game! Simple, but beautiful graphics, perfect controls, tons of levels, awesome upgrades, fun multiplayer, VERY addicting, the downloadable version of Retro Evolved to the DS was very cool, and it's all for only $20!

The only downsides that I found were that one, the online feature was pretty shallow. I thought it would have been fun to play with or against someone online. And two, I didn't like the fact that your multiplier would only reach as high as 150. I'm probably just being picky, but I thought it would have been really cool to have the multiplier keep going up until you die!

But overall, there are so many positives about this game, I doubt you will worry too much about those two. I would recommend this game to anyone, especially to those of you who liked asteroids, like me, you'll have a lot of fun with this game.

This game gets a 4.25/5 with the title of Awesome!
