I got what i paid for, and then some.

Great art, novelty, fun gunfights, chainsaws. this game was worth the hype. let's be straight too, how many copies did this sell because of the brilliant teaser TV spot with the Tears for Fears cover soundtrack? what a fantastic song to juxtapose against the horrifying visuals. those guys earned their paychecks.

i feel that this game was worth every penny. let's chat about why:

The Good:

- the set illustrations are so artful. wow! the war ravaged scenery is just beautiful so if you haven't stopped to take a look in the midst of the battle, do. props to these illustrators.
- fun weapons, rewarding to use.
- good story. good continuity.
- at 8 or 9 hours, single player was typical and short enough that i wanted more. how much? enough to buy GOW 2, which was really good, but short of great. that's not to say that it didn't improve in most areas. just that it didn't improve enough.
- plenty of moments where i just thought "this is so new, i love it!", and "Wow!"
- pretty good cover system, but i prefer the system in MOH: Airborne by a bit because it's so subtle and refined.

The Bad: this is nitpicking because this game simply rocked. but here goes:

- a tad macho. and no, i'm not gay, but all the big, greasy biceps got a bit much.
- took a while to figure out how to dispatch the first Berserker!

Summary: for a few days, i lived this game. replayed it in my mind, restlessly put in a day of work so i could go home and play some more. to me, like a good movie, that's the ultimate test - memorability. this game had it and that's what made it an instant classic for the 360.
