Although the Campaign is predictable, the Multiplayer is updated, and better. (Except for some un-needed additions)

Gears of War 3 (Xbox 360) Review by Leakybubbles

The long awaited sequal for Gears of War is finally here. The ending to the trilogy! Was is worth it?

If you're talking Multiplayer wise- yes, heck yes. The multiplayer is a TON of fun! With the new mode, 'Team Deathmatch', although nothing new to other games- is a great addition to Gears. There is plenty of variety and fun to have in the multiplayer experience.

-Weapons-

here are a couple new weapons like the 'One Shot', which is similar to the 'Spartan Laser' in Halo 3 and Reach. It's a beam that charges and then (if aimed right) kills your enemy is one hit. Pretty cheap sounding- I know, but it's balanced with the charging.

There is also a new shot-gun called the 'Sawed off' and it's very powerful. One flaw; it takes forever to reload. So that's balanced as well. There is a third option to the main guns called the 'Retro Lancer' which is a normal lancer without the chainsaw but with a knife at the end of it so you can charge people and kill them with it. It's also alot more powerful than the Hammerburst and Lancer but alot less accurate. So they balanced stuff pretty well.

There is also a new weapon called the 'Digger', which I'm not a big fan of personally but it goes u underground and kills people from below. It goes through cover and can be quite annoying some times. During the Campaign you can also pick up a 'Cleaver' that those big Locust carry. It's fun.

The Hammerburst (my personal favorite) has been updated with an Aim-Down-The-Sights feature which makes it longer range and totally awesome! All the weapons seem pretty balanced and fun-to-use.

-Game Modes-

Team Deathmatch - Two teams of 5 square off with 15 respawns each until one team runs out and all players remaining die. First to 3.
~5 stars

WarZone - Two teams of 5 square off with one life each- first to 3.
~4 stars

Execution - Much like Warzone except players must be executed.
~5 stars

Capture The Leader - Two teams of 5 fight eachother while protecting their leader. If their leader gets capture for a certain amount of time-they lose.
~3 stars

King Of The Hill - The former "Annex" for Gears lovers. Run to capture the 'hill' while defeating your apponents. First to 3, 5 vs. 5.
~5 stars

Wingman - 4 Teams of 2 fight to the death- first to 15 kills wins.
~ 4 stars

-Campaign-
(no spoilers)

The campaign has improved for the most part. No annoying Kril from the first game, Beserkers ARE back, and they're fun. The game CAN be scary at times, the story IS interesting, and it's not TOO long nor too short. So, basically, it ends strong and it's a lot of fun, with great boss fights and rememberable moments.

-My only complaints are that when you 'split-up' it only lasts for about a minute until you meet up again, making the game VERY easy. And the story is kinda predictable, which is dissapointing- but still worth playing. Also, whoever wrote the dialogue when the characters are telling 'jokes'. Yeah.. what are you, twelve?

-Graphics and Sound-

The graphics are amazing, Gears of War has never had a problem with making it's game look great, and it never did til the very end. The sound is great too, music as you would expect and are used to, and it flows great together.

-Horde and Beast mode-

Horde mode is updated and now has fortifictations which are bought with money and make the mode more fun. The waves are alot more varied and replayable, making the game unpredictable. And the Boss ways can be VERY difficult but alot of fun when you have 5 people playing.

Beast mode is a new addition to the game where you get to BE the locust creatures. The more COG you kill, the higher up in Locusts you get to buy, and be. It's alot of fun and a good addition.

-FINAL VERDICT-

Gears of War 3 is a VERY good game and I'd recommend it to any shooter fans and to EVERY Gears of War fan. 8.0

Thanks for reading.
