Gauntlet isn't bad, but the gameplay is repetetive and it will eat up a lot of quarters.

User Rating: 6 | Gauntlet ARC
Pros: Funny looking characters | Beating things up can be fun sometimes | Long game.

Cons: Gameplay is repetetive | If you're not playing it at home, then you'll lose a lot of quarters.

Ok, first of all, I'd like to say that I played this game on a home arcade machine, and this thing has eaten up atleast $1000 in quarters. I'm using fake credits, but it's still annoying to have to continuesly press the credits button until your finger hurts. Every credit gives you about 200 health, which is especially annoying when you consider that enemys take a lot of damage.

There is multiplayer in the game, but it's not especially good, so I won't mention it. The sprites are pretty cool in the game. You've got an elf, a warrior, wizards, a female warrior, demons, ghosts and grunts. The sprites all look nice, and they're pretty funny too. The good looking sprites aren't really enough to make this game worth all the cash, but they're just good enough to be worth mentioning.

The game seems to go on for a long time, which is good if you like the game, but for people like me, it's not especially good. Like I said, Gauntlet isn't bad, but the gameplay is repetetive to a point where you wanna pull your hair out. The gameplay isn't bad when you start, but when enemys start to come in HUGE packs, you'll wish combat was more than just button mashing.

The level design isn't half bad, you've gotta think to get to the end, but if you know the way to go, then levels are extremely short. After completing certain levels, you'll go to a treasure room, where you can collect a ton of treasure, but it's gotta be done in 20 seconds, and you've gotta find the exit, or you won't get the bonus points, which is really frusturating, even though points don't do you any good at all.

Bottomline: If you're into arcade action games, then Gauntlet is probably one worth playing, but if you aren't into button mashers, then you migh wanna stay away. Gauntlet is a huge game, but it costs so many quarters that you'll run out of money before you can complete it, and that's one of the big problems with the game. Nonetheless, Gauntlet is a minorly entertaining action game.
