Love the old arcade titles... not so buzzed about the price!
I took an extra long lunch break from work and got to the house to spend some money like a kid at a candy store.... or should I say arcade! However I never got the chance to do so because the game hung up during the load sequence. So my lunch hour was a bust. So I went back to work to search the net for what was going on with Game Room and found out that it is a glitch that can easily be bypassed by signing in with an offline profile and then logging off after the initial load sequence and then logging back on with my online profile. I feel like a monkey jumping through hoops!
So finally passed the initial troubles I was excited to play some old games. As of right now there are about 30 titles to play from companies like activison, konami, and a few others. From what I understand more are on the way and there will be new titles available each week. The only other bummer I see in my opinion is that these games aren't really that cheap. $.50 to play once and $3 to own is kinda high to me personally. If you think about that, if you want to own the entire arcade of current titles that equates to $90. Kinda steep considering the cost of arcade compilation discs that are out there. Although in this case you only pay for what you want.
Ok now that I have removed the bad taste from my initial reaction here is what I love. I love that I can trick out my arcade and invite friends to try my games for free. I love the leaderboard! It feels like the old days when you used to be able to brag about your high score on the machine in the arcade. I still remember the day that I felt I lost a dear friend when they unplugged the TMNT Arcade machine at the local movie theater and I lost my status of #1 high score there. Good news is that this leaderboard won't get unplugged. What I think I love the most about this arcade is that when I purchase a game on xbox, I can own it on my pc too for one price.
So overall experience is good. Not thrilled about the early glitches but I am passed that now. The initial download is free... so there is nothing to lose except harddrive space to download it. The game selection is decent and only going to get better. The price is a bit steep, but you only pay for what you want. I think there are great possibilities Game Room... now if only I could find a sweet arcade like controller to really get into the experience!
