Choices do NOT matter

User Rating: 5 | Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series PS4

There is one big reason why I dropped from being nothing short of enthusiastic about this telltale game series to being blankly disappointed and almost disgusted. The whole fascination of the telltale games build on you as a player being able to influence the course of what happens through your decisions. But they don't. Expect from being rewarded with some different cut scenes they simply do NOT. It does not do so in the large course of action, and it even doesn't affect anything in smaller ways. So all Telltale puts up is an illusion.

The story is appealing, characters are well formed, the stage is well set, plots interwoven and horribly complex and it attaches in a fantastic way to existing happenings in the books/series. Graphics, voice acting and animations are top notch. But hey, this is nothing more than a movie where you can hit some buttons every now and then – and hitting the buttons does not change anything.

So why the high scores Gamespot? Clearly it seems out of place rising this project score-wise up to other games that have so much more effort in their makings and complexe worlds – where choice DO matter.

This genre has potential, and it can go far. Hopefully someone else comes up with something that makes use of its underlying strength – Choice.
