WWE Fastlane 2019 PPV Predictions: Two Kickoff Show Matches
A second Kickoff Show match has been added to the Fastlane PPV card. WWE superstars Big E & Xavier Woods will take on the team of Shinsuke Nakamura & Rusev. Anyone else thing this is a super-weird match that makes no sense?
Wrestlemania is almost here. Are you excited? Well, before we can get to WWE's biggest PPV of the year, we have to make a quick stop at Fastlane, which is traditionally a worthless and boring PPV. However, it's a new year, and surprisingly enough, WWE has gotten me invested in the storylines leading into this event.
While we're all sitting around waiting for Kofi Kingston vs. Daniel Bryan and Becky Lynch to finally fight Ronda Rousey in a sanctioned match--with or without Charlotte Flair--Fastlane is actually building on those storylines in interesting ways. Lynch will take on Charlotte Flair, and if "The Man" wins, she'll get a spot in the Raw Women's Championship match. Meanwhile, Owens is getting a shot at the WWE Championship against Bryan, creating even more anticipation for Kingston's eventual battle at Mania.
Fastlane comes to PPV and the WWE Network on Sunday, March 10. The main card start times are listed below, and the Kickoff Show starts one hour prior. As of this writing, there is one match on the preshow, and it's a good one. Like every other wrestling fan in the world, I have my opinions on who is going to win and lose these matches on Sunday, so here are my predictions for Fastlane.
Fastlane Start Times:
- 4 PM PT
- 6 PM C
- 7 PM ET
- 12 AM GMT
Make sure to come back to GameSpot on Sunday, March 10 for live coverage of the event.
Big E & Xavier Woods vs Shinsuke Nakamura & Rusev (Kickoff Match)
I am very confused by this. The match almost feels like a weird consolation prize for everyone involved. All of these superstars are talented in their own right, but this just feels weird and tossed together real quick for no reason. But who will win? Honestly, both of these teams could use the win. However, I think it will go to Nakamura and Rusev because those two desperately need to get pushed. They've become stagnant, which shouldn't happen since they are fantastic on their own.
Prediction: Rusev and Nakamura wins
Rey Mysterio vs. Andrade (Kickoff Match)
I just realized that Andrade "Cien" Almas has been "Neville'd" by WWE. He now competes under one, singular name. I really enjoy a good Kickoff Show match, and this will be a great one, but Mysterio vs. Andrade is not a Kickoff Show caliber match. This should be the first show on the main card. It's going to be explosive. It doesn't really matter who wins this match, so I'll predict Andrade will come out on top.
Prediction: Andrade wins
The Usos (c) vs. The Miz & Shane McMahon
(Smackdown Tag Team Championship)
Title rematches aren't a thing anymore in WWE's new era. Wait... this is a title rematch. Huh... Well, this is going to happen at Fastlane, and personally, I am not a fan of The Miz/Shane McMahon tag team. It's not my bag, and I like Miz as a singles competitor a whole lot more, even though he's usually surrounded by some sort of entourage. The Usos continue to be at the top of their game, and going into Wrestlemania, they need to stay champions.
Prediction: The Usos win
Sasha Banks & Bayley (c) vs. Nia Jax & Tamina
(Women's Tag Team Championship)
I'm really excited about the Women's Tag Team Championship because it can defended across all of WWE's brands, including NXT and NXT UK. While the chances of a team in developmental winning are slim-to-none, I love the fact this title can go anywhere. Bayley and Banks won the championship at Elimination Chamber, and to give this newly-created title some weight, they need to retain it at Fastlane. WWE needs to build the prestige, so don't expect Banks & Bayley to lose any time soon.
Side note: I just can't call them The Boss 'n' Hug Connection. It's a weird team name that's too derivative for my liking.
Prediction: Banks & Bayley win
The Shield vs. Baron Corbin, Drew McIntyre & Bobby Lashley
The Shield coming back together for another match: that's fine. Their opponents: I'm 2/3rds fine with it. Bobby Lashley feels like he's here because he's a big guy and nothing else, even though Elias was the one to kick all of this off with a guitar shot. My bias is showing, isn't it? Lashley bores me. Anyway, the Shield reunion is the focus, and the trio should come out on top here.
Prediction: The Shield wins
The Revival vs. Aleister Black & Ricochet vs. Chad Gable & Bobby Roode
(Raw Tag Team Championship)
Raw is working on rebuilding its tag team division and putting The Revival at the top of the mountain. They'll be taking on former champs Roode and Gable and NXT newcomers Black and Ricochet. While the division has been a deadzone for a long time, this should be a fantastic match. However, The Revival will retain, only to lose the championships at Wrestlemania next month.
Prediction: The Revival win
Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch
It's time for the lock of the night! If Lynch wins this match, she'll be added to the Raw Women's Championship match at Wrestlemania. Look, we all know Lynch will be added to the Mania card, but you can still have a great match with a predictable ending. However, I believe there is more to this match than meets the eyes. Flair and Lynch will have a fantastic, classic match, but towards the end of it, Ronda Rousey will come in and attack Lynch, ultimately giving her the win by DQ. With all the times Lynch has interfered with Rousey on Raw, it's time for the Raw Women's champion to turn the tables.
Prediction: Lynch wins by DQ after Ronda Rousey interferes.
Asuka (c) vs. Mandy Rose
(Smackdown Women's Championship)
Smackdown has been heavily pushing Rose recently, even having her squash former champion Naomi on a recent episode of the Tuesday night show. This has leaked into the commentary team with Corey Graves going on and on about her. It's not Lacey Evans bad (what in the hell is going on with that, by the way?) because at least Rose has proven herself in the ring on the main roster. I'm all for Rose getting into the main event, but this is a match for Asuka to win and dominate.
Prediction: Asuka wins
Daniel Bryan (c) vs. Kevin Owens
(WWE Championship)
WWE pulled a great move by giving Owens a shot at the title at Fastlane. Before you get angry, Kofi Kingston vs. Daniel Bryan is going to happen at Wrestlemania, and I couldn't be more excited. However, that match needs to be saved for Mania and not on what is traditionally a roadside attraction event. The build for Owens vs. Bryan has been brief but very good. Owens' return as this middle-ground character who isn't face or heel is working really well, and I could see him being involved in Mania as well, for a triple threat match. Regardless of all that speculation though, Bryan needs to win here because that belt is so cool.
Prediction: Daniel Bryan wins
