Star Wars: The Book Of Boba Fett Trailer Breakdown

Kicking off the week was a little bit of a surprise for Star Wars fans. The first teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett arrived, and this show seems unlike anything Star Wars has done before. Taking place after Season 2 of The Mandalorian, the show will follow Temuera Morrison (Aquaman, Star Wars Episode II) as Fett and his accomplice Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) as he takes over the throne of Jabba the Hutt.

And when we said this show seems unlike anything Star Wars has done before, it's because the teasers leads us to believe the entire series revolves around the crime syndicate on Tattooine--that planet on the Outer Rim where all the exciting things seem to happen. Throughout the video, we noticed some Easter eggs, references to other movies, and indications of where this show will be headed, so check out our breakdown below.

Additionally, there are a lot of new Star Wars TV shows and movies in the works. Some of the upcoming TV series include Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Ahsoka. As for movies, Patty Jenkins will helm a movie titled Rogue Squadron, while Rian Johnson is making a new Star Wars trilogy.

The opening shot of the teaser is Jabba's Palace on Tattooine. Jabba hasn't been in power in quite some time, roughly five years at this point. Bib Fortuna was in charge, but Shand and Fett make quick work of him in the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, so Din Djarin (Mando) and Shand presumably now run the joint.

Additionally, there's a little weird spider robot in the scene. This is actually a monk of the B'omarr Order. Before old canon was wiped clean, the B'omarr Monks ran the palace. They had their brains removed from their bodies and placed into jars to avoid sensual distractions. Prior to this, they've only briefly appeared once, in Return of the Jedi.

Obviously, a show about Boba Fett will have a lot of Boba Fett in it. This is the first shot of Fett, with his recently returned armor. Previously, a local marshal on Tattoine (played by Timothy Olyphant) was in possession of it on The Mandalorian. Eventually, Fett gained possession of the armor again and began to get his life back on track.

It's hard to tell what city Shand and Fett are in from this shot--it's for sure not Mos Eisley. As the two watch, people in the town look at them like they're outsiders.

We see an Ithorian, and Boba Fett speaks over this scene, saying, "I know that you sit on the throne of your former employer."

In Star Wars history, there has been only one notable Ithorian who lived on Tatooine--if this scene actually takes place there--and that's Momaw Nadon. He was a rebel sympathizer, and we see him briefly in A New Hope. He hid Rebels in his secret garden outside of Mos Eisley.

There were also Ithorian bounter hunters on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, but they're both dead. So maybe, this Ithorian is just someone we haven't met who worked for Jabba the Hutt.

On Tatooine, there are a few cities and settlements, but for the most part, it's a wasteland. Everyone already knows Mos Eisley, but this doesn't seem like the famous town we've seen in numerous TV shows and movies. There is also Mos Espa, a spaceport we saw in Episode 1--where a young Anakin Skywalker did some podracing.

There are other known towns on Tatooine such as Mos Entha, Mos Taike, Bestine, Carnthout, and Anchorhead. Out of all of these, Bestine is the only one of them that's considered a city--and it's only appeared--in name--in one novelization of the movies. Most of the lore of the city comes from the former MMO Star Wars Galaxies.

The Gamorrean Guard were seen throughout the Jabba's palace scenes in the original movies. Although Jabba is gone, they still appear in the background around Shand and Fett in some of the scenes.

After wracking our brains, we couldn't figure out who this group is that Fett and Shand fight with. Could it be leftovers from Crimson Dawn or is it one of the other Crime Syndicates--like Black Sun or Exchange--or is it a group trying to take down Fett's new syndicate?

For those of you who love the Mandalorian, but aren't too familiar with the lore, here's why Boba Fett doesn't have issue removing his mask.

First, Fett is technically not a Mandalorian. He's a clone of his father, Jango Fett, who was a Mandalorian foundling, raised by Mandalorians, fighting alongside them in the Civil Wars as a commando. Afterward, the new Mandalorian government disavowed him and claimed he had stolen the armor. After Jango's death, Boba got his hands on the armor.

However, even if Boba Fett was Mandalorian, there are only certain sects that refuse to remove their helmets: the most notable being Death Watch, which were considered a terrorist organization by some. An offshoot of that group was Children of the Watch, which many Mandalorians considered a cult who followed the "true" way of the Mandalore. This is the group that Din Djarin was/is a part of.

Speaking with Boba Fett at a table are others from the criminal syndicate of the planet--those who broke away from Jabba at one point or another. We see some Klatooinians--the grey-skinned, bulldog-faced people--and a couple Trandoshians--the reptillian-looking folk. Both have been a part of Tatooine since A New Hope.

We also see a couple Aqualishes. The most notable of these species is Ponda Baba, a smuggler for Jabba the Hutt. In A New Hope, Baba got into an argument with Luke Skywalker at the Mos Eisley Cantina.

While most of the Star Wars canon has treated Tusken Raiders as murderers, Season 2 of The Mandalorian gave us new insight into the species. They are native to Tatooine and very territorial--thanks to years of outsiders moving in on their home. Djarin allied himself with the Tuskens to complete a mission.

We see a couple of Twi'Leks in a brief scene. Many people know Twi'leks as the species that was dancing in Jabba's palace, or the couple of Jedi we've seen in the prequels. The most notable is Hera Syndulla from the TV series Star Wars Rebels. Additionally, Bib Fortuna was one of them, and he was Jabba's right-hand-man, who eventually became the leader of the Hutt crime syndicate after Jabba died.

At one point, Boba's helmet hits the ground and Republic credits topple out of it. This is a transitional time in the galaxy where the Republic is beginning to run things, after the Empire was seemingly destroyed.

The group Shand and Fett are fighting in this scene, look a little similar to members of the Guavian Death Gang--which we saw in The Force Awakens. This is based mostly on the red/black color scheme. Although, this group didn't carry portable shields and melee weapons in Episode VII.

Shand and Fett lay out how this new syndicate will operate.

"If you had spoken such insolence to Jabba, he'd have fed you to his menagerie," explains Shand.

"Please, speak freely," continues Fett.

As explained earlier, Fett wants to rule over others out of respect, not out of fear. This is a new dawn for the underground on Tatooine.
