Mario Kart And Hot Wheels Come Together For These Awesome Track Sets

By Mat Elfring on June 24, 2019 at 11:18AM PDT

Mario Kart 8 is a ton of fun, and there is no denying that. And it may have been quite some time since I've played with a Hot Wheels track, but I remember those being a lot of fun as well. So of course, it makes total sense that these two things should get married and create an odd pairing that somehow makes an amazing amount of sense. That's right. Hot Wheels is releasing Mario Kart inspired cars and racetracks.

These cars are 1:64 scale replicas of your favorite Mario Kart characters, and Hot Wheels has developed some tracks for them to race around. At launch, Mario, Yoshi, Luigi, and Bowser will be released, with characters like Peach, Koopa Troopa, and Toad coming soon.

Hot Wheels sent some pictures our way featuring some of the new products, so let's take a look at what's available exclusively at Target starting on June 23, then later in the year at other retailers. Hot Wheels has also announced there will be a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive Metal Mario vehicle available at Mattel's booth during the show, which you can pre-order at shop.mattel.com.

If you're interested in more exclusives coming to Comic-Con, check out the coolest toys available at the show, and all of the Funko Pops available at SDCC. However, for now, let's check out these Mario Kart Hot Wheels. Pricing for all these items is listed below each image.

    It's ah-me, Mario!

    It's ah-me, Mario!

Mario appears in his classic Kart, but let's be honest... who actually plays as Mario in Mario Kart?

    Luigi, sans death stare

    Luigi, sans death stare

While Luigi looks great, I would have loved to see his head turned, giving his competitor his patented "death stare."

    Yoshi

    Yoshi

It's Yoshi. I don't have a lot to say about that character.

    Price: $5

    Bowser

    Bowser

This may be my personal favorite, as when I play as Bowser--which isn't too often--I put him in the pink car. I come from the Bret "Hitman" Hart school of thought when it comes to dressing up your character.

    Thwomp Ruins Track Set

    Thwomp Ruins Track Set

Bringing Thwomp into the Hot Wheels world is a cool idea, as it's such a major part of the Mario Kart world.

Obviously, the Thwomp comes down and stops your car from completing the track.

    Piranha Plant Slide Track Set

    Piranha Plant Slide Track Set

Much like the Thwomp set, there is another track being released that features the Piranha Plant, which wants to eat your kart, or your character.

    Price: $20

Toad lives in a house shaped like his head. Why don't we all live this way?

You can link Piranha Plant Slide, Thwomp Ruins, and Mario Kart Circuit together to create a pretty cool-looking track with hazards from the game.
