Game Of Thrones Season 8: Check Out These Photos From Episode 2
By Phil Hornshaw | @philhornshaw on
Season 8 of Game of Thrones is officially underway, and there are a mere five more episodes before the series comes to its ultimate conclusion. The premiere episode largely spent its time setting up things that are sure to be important later on, bringing characters together who haven't seen each other in years.
Outside of the teaser at the end of the episode, though, we've seen very little of what else is coming in Season 8. HBO released a series of photos to tease Episode 2 this week, which airs on April 21, casting a small amount of additional light on what to expect. They suggest that Jaime Lannister's arrival in Winterfell is going to be a very big deal, but we also know that the White Walkers are coming very soon. The Stark kids haven't been together since Season 1, and from the looks of things, they'll make a formidable team against the coming threat.
You can check out all the images below--feel free to join us in speculating as to what they're all about, and when Bran Stark is going to stop just looking at people creepily and start being interesting again.
There's at least one relatively happy family in Westeros, and that's Sam, Gilly, and Little Sam.
At this point, feels like this image of Bran sitting at the heart tree in Winterfell could be from any episode--but maybe Bran will start actually doing something interesting with all this Three-Eyed Raven nonsense.
Looks like Daenerys may still be trying to get people in Winterfell to like her--like Sam, who has a very good reason to hate her, since she executed his father and brother in Season 7.
Jaime Lannister's arrival in Winterfell seems like it'll be the centerpiece of the episode--likely with a trial. Jaime has ridden into the home of his greatest enemies, and while he's changed as a person pretty significantly over the course of the show, the Starks don't know that, and they might not even care.
This shot and a few of the others suggest a war council, probably in preparation for the defense of Winterfell against the White Walkers. If that's the case, it's cool that Arya has been invited to weigh in. Then again, this might be Arya and Jon (and others) considering what to do with Jaime.
This looks to be the same meeting as the previous shot, which increases the possibility that we're looking at a war-related discussion.
And it appears Sam is in on it too--so maybe all those scrolls he took from the Citadel are going to yield some useful information about the Night King.
Meanwhile, Bran is still creepy.
And Tyrion is still drinking. He might be looking so forlorn because his brother is in the same position Tyrion found himself facing in the Eyrie--on trial amongst his enemies.
Also Davos is there.
It might be Gilly who comes up with the key to beating the White Walkers. After all, she was the one who discovered the annulment in Season 7 that revealed Jon was the heir to the Iron Throne.
Missandei and Greyworm might be making plans of their own as they hang around all these distrustful northerners.
Sansa remains a big X factor in Winterfell. We know she's not a big fan of Daenerys, and while she knows the North needs the aid of her armies and dragons to defeat the White Walkers, Sansa is too canny to not be thinking about the long term.
Also Lyanna Mormont is still around to give killer speeches--and now she's in armor, increasing her coolness even more, somehow. What are the odds she's on team "execute Jaime immediately"?
