Every Superhero Who's Ever Been In The Justice League, Part 3: Mister Miracle To Zauriel

While the Justice League in the latest DC movie features just a handful of heroes, the history of the team in the comic books is a lot more complex. Since their creation in 1960, the team has seen over 150 members in a wide variety of divisions, offshoots, alternate versions, and reimaginings. From Justice Leagues America, Europe, and International to Justice League Dark and Justice League Elite, and through the various timelines and reboots like Flashpoint, New 52, and Rebirth, it all gets a bit complicated.

AKA: Scott Free

Part of DC's Fourth World mythology, Scott Free is the adopted son of the villainous Darkseid, who ultimately escaped and fled to earth. In the 1980s, he became part of Justice League International, alongside his wife Big Barda.

AKA: Lar Gand

Mon-El is an explorer from the planet Daxam, with powers similar to Superman. He was part of the post-Infinite Crisis Justice League, alongside Guardian, Donna Troy, and Dick Grayson's Batman.

AKA: Laura Klein

Laura Klein was discovered as a baby on the moon, having been left there by a mysterious group known as The Hundred. She can manipulate gravity and joined in the league in 2001.

AKA: Duncan Pramble

Multi-Man is a one-time villain who has the ability to be reborn immediately after death, each time with a different, random super power. He was part of Max Lord's Justice League Antarctica, designed to keep inept criminals out of the way of civilisation.

AKA: Jennifer Barclay

An enigmatic hero with the powers of energy Manipulation, Mystek was briefly a member of Martian Manhunter's Justice League Task Force, but she died on a mission into deep space.

Naif al-Sheikh is a former Saudi Arabian soldier and an expert in international espionage, with a hatred for all superpowered meta-humans. It was his distrust of superheroes that led to his appointment as a liaison with the covert Justice League Elite.

AKA: Asa

Asa is a mysterious nurse with the ability to heal supernatural injuries and the former lover of John Constantine. She is affiliated with Constantine's Justice League Dark.

AKA: Dick Grayson

After resigning as Robin and leaving Bruce Wayne’s side, Dick Grayson adopted the name of Nightwing. He joined the JLA in 2000 and returned later as Batman, having taken his identity following his apparent death during the events of Final Crisis.

AKA: Albert Rothstein

Later known as Atom Smasher, Nuklon inherited his powers from his father, a reluctant supervillain called Cyclotron. He has the ability to shift his atoms and change the size of his body, and was part of the JLA led by Wonder Woman in the early '90s.

AKA: Todd Rice

Todd Rice is the son of original Green Lantern Alan Scott and the twin brother of JLA member Jade. Unlike his sister, whose powers resembled her father's, Obsidian can transform his body into shadows. He served briefly with the League in the early 1990s.

AKA: Kevin Kho

OMAC stands for One-Machine Attack Construct, a bio-tech weapon developed by sentient Satellite Brother Eye. Believing Bruce Wayne had something to do with his development, OMAC took on Justice League International, but eventually allied with them.

AKA: Aristides Demetrios

As his name suggests, this hero is a Greek Olympian whose incredible strength is drawn from the Golden Fleece. In DC's New 52 reboot, he was part of the Justice League International led by Booster Gold.

AKA: Barbara Gordon

Following her assault by the Joker in The Killing Joke, Barbara Gordon was left in a wheelchair and no longer able to operate as Batwoman. Instead she put her incredible photographic memory to work as Oracle, proving to be an essential part of the Justice League.

A powerful New God and the second son of Darkseid, Orion learnt to control his darker impulses and dedicate his life to intergalactic peace. He was in Justice League International in the 1980s.

Based on the Pandora of Greek mythology, Pandora first appeared at the end of Flashpoint, where she helped the Flash merge three different timelines. She subsequently joined Justice League Dark to fight the villainous Blight.

AKA: Judas Iscariot

For decades, the identity and backstory of the Phantom Stranger was a mystery, but as part of New 52, he was given an identity. He is none other than the Biblical figure of Judas Iscariot, who is seeking redemption for past betrayals, and was briefly a member of Justice League Dark.

AKA: Patrick O'Brien

The super-stretchy Plastic Man is a long-time member of the DC universe who, despite his incredible powers, takes an amused, good-humoured approach to life. He joined the Justice League in 1996.

AKA: Kara Zor-L / Karen Starr

Kara Zor-L is Superman's Earth Two cousin, and she possesses many of the same powers as Kal-El. She was a key party of Justice League Europe in the 1980s.

AKA: Jessica Cruz

Power Ring was originally the villainous counterpart to the Green Lantern, but the character was rebooted as part of New 52 as a hero and part of the new Justice League.

AKA: Ray Terrill

The second hero to use the alias of The Ray, Ray Terrill inherited amazing light-controlling powers via the power of the sun. He joined the Justice League after the Superman's death, and subsequently joined Justice League Task Force.

AKA: Roy Harper

Originally a sidekick to the Green Arrow known as Speedy, Roy Harper was offered Justice League membership by his mentor and given the new alias of Red Arrow. Like Green Arrow, he is an expert marksman and master of the bow and arrow.

Red Tornado was formed from the marching of two entities--an high-tech android body and a tornado-manipulating alien called Ulthoon. Initially a villain, Red Tornado ultimately chose the side of good and was part of the original JLA in the 1960s.

AKA: Vladimir Mikoyan

The Rocket Red Brigade is a team of enhanced Russian superheroes with armoured battlesuits. Vladimir Mikoyan was the first Rocket Red to be accepted into Justice League International but was later exposed as a Manhunter android and destroyed.

AKA: Dimitri Pushkin

Following the discovery that Vladimir Mikoyan was an enemy infiltrator, another Rocket Red--Dimitri Pushkin--was admitted into the League. A well-liked, friendly man with a love of American culture, Pushkin remained with JLI for several years.

AKA: Gavril Ivanovich

Gavril Ivanovich featured in both pre- and post- New 52 Justice League teams. In the former, he was a Rocket Red who was loyal to the old Communist cause but nevertheless joined the team and won their respect. In the New 52 timeline, he is a member of the Booster Gold-Led JLI.

AKA: Dren Keeg

As the name suggests, the Scarlet Skier was initially written as a parody of Marvel's Silver Surfer. He has the dubious honour of being the only DC hero or villain defeated by G'Nort, and he was later packed off the frozen wastes as part of Justice League Antarctica.

AKA: Rac Shade

The reality-distorting Shade first appeared in the 1970s, and has been rebooted several times since then. The New 52 version was a key part of Justice League Dark.

AKA: Laura Neilsen

Silver Sorceress is part of a superhero trio from the planet Angor, along with Blue Jay and Wandjina. She has advanced magical abilities and was part of Justice League International.

AKA: Vera Lynn Black

Sister Superior has cybernetically enhanced arms that can transform into any weapon. She was the leader of the covert Justice League Elite, a black ops version of the JLA.

AKA: Koriand'r

Koriand'r is a princess from the planet Tamaran, and originally part of the Teen Titans. She possesses the powers of flight and energy projection and was part of Dick Grayson's JLA, after he took on the identity of Batman.

AKA: Courtney Whitmore

A teenage hero with a superpower staff and belt, Stargirl was part of the New 52 Justice League that was formed by Amanda Waller and Steve Trevor.

AKA: Mikaal Tomas

A fearsome warrior from the planet Talok III, Starman turned on his own people in order to defend the Earth from alien invaders. Gains superhuman powers from a sonic crystal he wears around his neck, and was in the JLA alongside Green Arrow, The Ray, and Congorilla.

AKA: Hank Heywood III

There have been no fewer than four Steels in DC's comics, three being part of the same superpowered family. The second indestructible hero--aka Hank Heywood--was part of a JLA team based in Detroit in the 1980s.

AKA: John Henry Irons

The forth Steel is no relation to the Heywood family but did serve in the JLA. After Superman's death, the brilliant weapons engineer John Henry Irons designed a power suit to allow him to continue the Man of Steel's work. He joined the League in 1996.

Steve Trevor is a former intelligence officer and the character most closely associated with Woman Woman over the decades. In the New 52 reboot, Trevor was reworked as a super spy who acts as a liaison with the Justice League. In 2013, he became a member of the League itself.

AKA: Alec Holland

Scientist Alex Holland was turned into a half-man/half-plant creature following an accident in a lab. He joined the more supernaturally themed Justice League Dark to help fight against Blight.

AKA: Kara Zor-El / Linda Lang

Superman's cousin joined the spin-off Justice League led by Green Lantern and Green Arrow in 2009 and fought alongside the likes of Starman and Congorilla.

AKA: Kal-El / Clark Kent

Along with Batman and Wonder Woman, Superman is the most famous member of the Justice League. He was there at the very start and appeared in many of the different versions over the decades.

AKA: Jon Standing Bear

There have been a number of Super-Chiefs in the DC universe. Jon Standing Bear was introduced as part of the New 52 and was blessed with the powers of super-strength due to exposure to a meteorite. He helped formed a new JLA with Firestorm, Firehawk, and Ambush Bug.

AKA: Hugh Dawkins

Hugh Dawkins was part of Justice League International in the 1980s and has the ability to transform himself into huge, intelligent Tasmanian Devil.

A young magician with incredible powers, Hunter was a member of Justice League Dark until he quit the team to become the wizard-king of the mystical city of Epoch.

AKA: Clara Kendall

Tomorrow Woman was in fact a superpowered android who was sent as an enemy agent into the Justice League by the villainous Doctor Ivo. She was designed as a bomb that would detonate and kill the League, but she discovered her true programming before this could happen and was able to cancel the planned explosion.

AKA: William MacIntyre

Triumph was one of the founding members of the Justice League, and their first leader. However, his existence was deleted by a time-rift, and he he now harbours great bitterness that he was denied his place amongst the Earth's greatest heroes.

AKA: Paco Ramone /Francisco "Cisco" Ramon

Former gang leader Paco Ramone can generate sonic shockwaves and was the first Justice League member to be killed in the line of duty. The character was rebooted as Francisco Ramon in New 52 and was part of Steve Trevor and Amanda Waller's JLA.

AKA: Mari Jiwe McCabe

With the power of her mystical totem, Vixen has control over the animal kingdom. She joined the New 52 Justice League International and subsequently the JLA.

AKA: Princess Diana / Diana Prince

Princess Diana of Themyscira is a founding member of the Justice League and one of its most famous heroes. She was also part of the New 52 reboot.

AKA: Zan and Jayna of Exor

Zan and Jayna are the escaped slaves of an alien overlord, and they initially fought the Justice League before being accepted into their ranks in 1996. They require each other to be present to activate their shape-shifting powers.

A key member of Justice League Dark, Zatanna is one of the DC's universe most powerful spelllcasters, but her power often depletes her physically.

Zauriel was created initially as a replacement for Hawkman, who was off-limits for DC writer Grant Morrison due to the latter's convoluted backstory. Zauriel was a former angel who joined the JLA in the mid-1990s.
