Doctor Strange: 8 Weird Items From The World of The Sorcerer Supreme

By Mat Elfring on October 25, 2016 at 8:36PM PDT

The Marvel cinematic universe is about to get mystical. Doctor Strange will be the first Marvel movie that deals with magic, which is a pretty large part of the comic book universe. While the story of Dr. Stephen Strange isn't very complicated, the items that exist in his world are and quite a few are truly weird. We're taking a look at some of the weirdest items in the world of Doctor Strange.

    Sanctum Sanctorum

    Sanctum Sanctorum

In Greenwich Village, New York City, lies the Sanctum Sanctorum. This is the home of Doctor Strange, right in the city that never sleeps. Strange keeps all his magical artifacts inside this building, which is kept hidden with magic. One time, in the comics, a spell was cast around the building to make it look like a Starbucks was under construction.

    Eye of Agamotto

    Eye of Agamotto

The Eye of Agamotto has ties to the previous Sorcerer Supreme, before Strange received that title. The Eye is a mystical, sentient object that informs the owner of all it sees. This item can reveal everything, including seeing through magical spells. It can play back events, and it has some telepathic abilities as well. Most importantly, it can only be used for white magic only, meaning if the user has evil intent, it will not work for them. Some fans have theories about the Eye of Agamotto in relation to the upcoming movie.

    Orb of Agamotto

    Orb of Agamotto

The Orb of Agamotto is used for scrying: seeing the future. In addition, it can help the user detect magic. It stays in the Sanctum Sanctorum, and it can also be used to travel to Agamotto's doman. Agamotto was the first Sorcerer Supreme and is now a purely mystical being who occasionally helps out Strange on his travels. The Orb is one of the ways the two can communicate with each other.

    Cloak of Levitation

    Cloak of Levitation

Doctor Strange is known for his classic red cloak, which was given to him by the Ancient One. The Cloak of Levitation can fly and contort itself, through telepathic commands from Strange. It's one of the best weapons in Strange's arsenal.

    Book of the Vishanti

    Book of the Vishanti

The Book of the Vishanti is the most powerful weapon in Doctor Strange's war against the dark. This book contains all of the spells on the Earthly plane and has counterspells for dark magic. This is a book for white magic, and it has said to have infinite pages. Each spell takes time to learn, study, and practice, so the person who wields this book is not automatically considered a master of the spells held within.

    The Darkhold

    The Darkhold

A long time ago, an elder god named Chthon put all of the world's arcane knowledge into one book: The Darkhold. The book corrupts the person using it, and Chthon can control the user from his plane of existence. At one point, the book was used to destroy all the vampires in the Marvel Universe. Both Blade, the vampire hunter, and Morbius, the Spider-Man villain, have fallen victim and felt Chthon's wrath while trying to use one of the pages from the book.

    Wand of Watoomb

    Wand of Watoomb

Originally belonging to the deity Watoomb, this mystical wand is more of a defensive item against magic. It can create a defensive barrier against mystical attacks, heal the wielder, and even open portals to other dimensions. Doctor Strange won half of the wand from Watoomb after winning a magical duel against Cyrus Black.

    Dragonfang

    Dragonfang

Finally, there's Dragonfang. The blade is indestructible and was held by the Ancient One for many years, before he passed it onto Doctor Strange. Eventually, he bestowed the blade to the Asgardian princess Valkyrie, so this blade now has ties to Asgard.
