Wonder Woman is leading the way...
At long last, a Wonder Woman movie is a reality. Based on the reviews alone--it's rated a 76 on Metacritic--the film is a major achievement and the best film yet in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
With the movie raking in $103.1 million on its opening weekend, there should be no more excuses about why female superheroes haven't been given the spotlight they deserve. Here are 20 compelling female heroes that need their own movie as soon as possible.

Captain Marvel
It's hard to believe but the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has yet to give a female hero her own solo film. That will all change soon, however, with Brie Larson stepping into the role of Captain Marvel.
Expect the film to premiere sometime in 2019.

Jean Grey
20th Century Fox has revealed that the next movie in the X-Men franchise will center on Jean Grey as it adapts the Dark Phoenix storyline. Given that it's one of Marvel's all-time classic plots, fans can't help but hope that they get this one right.

Batgirl
Thankfully, the Batgirl movie is actually happening. What's more, with Joss Whedon writing and directing, it seems to be in good hands.
Given that there have been nine Batman films since Michael Keaton first donned the cowl in 1990--with only two featuring Batgirl--it's time for her to shine.

Emma Frost
Given how major a character Emma Frost is in the Marvel Universe, fans got their hopes up for her debut in X-Men: First Class. Sadly, she was relegated to little more than a lackey for the movie's big bad. A film about her transition from supervillain to superhero would be a welcome story.

Black Widow
Scarlett Johansson first played the role of Russian-spy-turned-hero Black Widow in 2010's Iron Man 2. Since then she's appeared in 5 MCU movies--with two more on the way--but has yet to get a solo movie.
We'd love to see Marvel's next phase of films give this rich character the solo story she deserves.

X-23
After her introduction in Logan--and the news that Hugh Jackman is done with the Wolverine role--why not bring Dafne Keen back for an X-23 solo movie? After all, the end of Logan perfectly sets up her leading a team of new mutants.

Supergirl
There's no denying that DC's movie universe could use a bit of brightening up. If The CW's take on Supergirl proves anything, it's that Kara Danvers can do exactly that.
Given that the DCEU has no problem using characters already in play on TV, why not put a big screen spin on Supergirl?

Mockingbird
While ABC failed to adapt Mockingbird for TV (though they did try!), the character would be a wonderful addition to the big screen MCU. She would also join Black Widow as one of the few Marvel superheroes that doesn't rely on special powers to get the job done.

Spider-Gwen
With Sony Pictures optioning to develop their own Spider-Man extended universe outside of the MCU, starting with a Venom movie, perhaps it's time for a new web-slinger. Since its debut in 2015, Spider-Gwen has become a beloved comic book series set on an alternate Earth where it's Gwen Stacy that was bitten by a radioactive spider. Who's to say she can't be the hero of this new franchise?

Jubilee
Given Jubilee's powers--shooting pyrotechnics from her hands and turning objects into explosives--it's hard to believe the movies didn't make much use of her. In X-Men: Apocalypse, however, this underrated X-Men character was given a true introduction and can now be showcased the right way.

Scarlet Witch
Wanda Maximoff is one of the most tortured members of the MCU, but unfortunately her stories are relegated to B- and C-plots in the Avengers films. A film about her personal journey--and who she is away from her fellow superheroes--would bring the necessary exploration of this complex character.

Negasonic Teenage Warhead
Negasonic Teenage Warhead immediately won viewers over with her debut in Deadpool. While she'll return for the movie's sequel, her own story would be a great addition to the X-Men franchise. If Spider-Man can make high school-age superheroes interesting, Negasonic and her bad attitude make them cool and cutting-edge.

Storm
Storm has had a long and storied history in Marvel Comics, but the X-Men films haven't touched on much of it. That's disappointing, as she's been around since the first movie.
Now that X-Men: Apocalypse has introduced a young Storm to the franchise, though, the time has come to fully explore her past.

Catwoman
Sure, Catwoman already had a movie. And it was terrible.
But that's why the antihero is due for a clean slate. A Selina Kyle story done right would be the perfect fit for DC's expanded movie universe.

Thor
In 2014, Marvel made a major change to the Thor comics, with Jane Foster taking control of Mjolnir and becoming the new Thor. This storyline would be an interesting way to continue Thor's journey when Chris Hemsworth moves on from the role.

Ironheart
As with Thor, Tony Stark too has also relinquished his role as a superhero in the comics. Instead, a young girl named Riri Williams now wears the armor under the name of Ironheart, ushering in a new generation of heroes.
When Robert Downey Jr. is ready to hang up his helmet, introducing Riri as his replacement would be a revolutionary step for the MCU.

Kitty Pryde
Yet another female superhero that's been undermined by the X-Men film franchise, Kitty Pryde can walk through walls and make herself intangible. That's a pretty incredible superpower that, with the right movie, could be elevated to something very special.

Power Girl
Should the DCEU not want to double up on Supergirl, given that she's already on TV, Power Girl would certainly do the trick. While they are technically the same person, Power Girl is from an alternate Earth and is often portrayed as more mature than her Supergirl counterpart. Then again, Warner Bros. could just do both movies to set up for an eventual crossover.

Rogue
Rogue is a character that can absorb the abilities of other mutants by touch, meaning she can become practically anyone. Yet in the X-Men films, her power is portrayed as a burden that she longs to get rid of. Given that the franchise rewrote its own timeline, 20th Century Fox should right their wrongs with Rogue and reintroduce the hero.

She-Hulk
While The Hulk hasn't connected in solo movies as much as Marvel Studios may have wanted, perhaps the answer is simple: A She-Hulk film could bring an entirely new dynamic to the MCU and, more importantly, eventually provide someone who can stand toe-to-toe with the Hulk in a future showdown.
