Im really leaning towards an 8 on this one but the lack of DS specific updates just holds it back from that score

I love this game, I remember playing the SNES version years ago when it came out and thought it was fantastic. Solid strategy, good story, GIANT ROBOTS!!!. Whats not to like? If you are a fan of turn based strategy games at all this game is a great blast from the past and its just as solid today as it was when it was released. As is usual with Square Enix the gameplay is solid and the storyline (often not a strong point of this type of game simply because its usually the gameplay that keeps you coming back for more) is actually not to bad and you will be interested to see what happens to the different characters in the game. Most of what needs to be said about Front Mission DS has been said in the Gamespot review but the lack of more DS oriend updates is my biggest letdown. The game is still great but its basically the same Front Mission I played over a decade ago. Its pretty much a straight port and I wish they had maybe updated some of the graphics and anim, this really isnt pushing the DS hardware. Also there are some weird glitches with the AI at times. I notice that the enemy missile troops will occasionally shoot at their own troops, only to have their target use chaff, thus invalidating the attack. Good for you the player, but weird none the less. I want to give this game a 7.8 but the marker wont let me so Ill give it a 7.5. If they had made a little more effort to update the presentation this would have been a solid 8. Don't let that put you off though, if you like turn based strategy, this is one of the best portable games available for DS
